I bought one literally the first day I could and I had my first flight in it 2 days ago. I've never experienced anything like it. The climb alone feels like you're in a fighter jet, which I've also flown in. I was averaging 4100fpm on climb out with 3/4 fuel and 3 passengers. So glad I made the right choice in getting one of these instead of a TBM or Piper

I have over 300 hours in this airplane. I can tell you it is legit. Full fuel, full payload and it still hits its published numbers of FL340 at 320kts. Burns about 48 gallons/hr. Having the ability to get that high gets us over most of the weather. Chicago to south Florida nonstop every time. Great plane for the money. Range? How about south Florida to Bend, Oregon with 1 fuel stop against the wind. Best in class.

It range is around 1195 nm full fuel and 2 pax with 2 seats open. Ghe TBM 900 series all push 1475 to 1550 nm range. I put 100 hrs in one of these, there's only 71 in the world, most are fleet owners. We could push 315 at FL320. In the TBM 910 & 930 I could fill with full fuel and 5 pax, fully loaded and do 330 kts at FL300. The Elic is an interesting plane but having been a kit from day one for over 8.5 yrs snd then become certified means there are lots of bugs to work out still. Plus incase folks don't know, the TBM started life as a Mooney corporate concept hence the M in TBM. It failed due lack of interest in a 245-260 kt single piston. Stuffing a PT6, Allison or Garrett in its nose made the difference though huh.

Thanks for the video Mike, but if I were going for a single engine turboprop, it would be a PC-12. Frankly, I think a single engine turboprop is a very expensive way to fly around the US and some destinations in the Caribbean. And of course the PC-12 has a bathroom, so there's that. Turbine engines are more reliable, but also more expensive to maintain. For me, I would go with a piston-twin if we're talking about that kind of range. If I need to go beyond that, then I would be looking at the Phenom 300.
@reed785M2 жыл бұрын
Not sure I’m following your logic, initial buy in is definitely high but these are much less thirsty than a jet and better range.
@FelipeArtista2 жыл бұрын
@@reed785M A turboprop engine is basically a jet engine turning a propellor shaft. What I'm saying is that, for slightly less speed and far less money, I can get a turbocharged piston twin that will give me better range and cost lesss to maintain. If I had the money to buy this plane, I would just skip it and get the PC-12 or a Phenom 300, because the Phenom 300, although it costs more per trip, I'm getting much faster speed, and better range, plus a bathroom for my passengers. It costs more yes, but it's the price I would be willing to pay for the additional comforts and benefits that the Epic doesn't have.

I love turboprop planes, because they remind me of my youth, when I lived under the flightpath of an airfield where Vickers Viscounts and Vanguards, Fokker Friendships, and HP Heralds and Jetstreams regularly flew overhead, with the signature whistling sound always getting me off my feet and out the door, looking up to the sky. Single turboprop planes seems to be a very new thing, but not unwelcome. This looks purposeful, but I think, ultimately, the Pilatus PC-12 is the better aircraft.

@@ivanvard6129 The HondaJets are nice, however, that price tag is not in line with the used budget an Embraer Phenom 100 typically holds, of about $2.2 - $3 million. @9:26, @$4.1 million you may as well buy the $5.7 million Embraer Phenom 100, which flies faster, higher ceiling, about the same range, has a bathroom, but its two jet engines consume twice the fuel. M600, Epic and TBM don’t come with a bathroom, but the PC12 does. Epic uses much more composite than TBM and PC12 . The Epic’s weight reduction translates into more speed and range than PC12. Both TBM and Pilatus have a big side door for your bulky stuff, whereas Epic doesn’t. Conclusion, the TPM and PC12 are better equipped aircrafts although the PC12 costs nearly twice the price - you get what you pay for.

One thing not mentioned anywhere in the comments is the difference in variable cost for a turboprop vs jet. Those variable costs can easily be double on jet aircraft. So if this plane can perform at entry level jet speeds, then you get those benefits without the doubly high operating costs.
@trevoC1322 жыл бұрын
Initial capital cost of aquisition is only a small portion of the formula of owning an aircraft. A twin jet is not a better option for an owner operator who isn't comfortable with flying jets or twins for that matter. Nor are the cost of maintenance, fuel, overhaul..... They aren't even in the same atmosphere. I couldn't imagine a single owner operator that would have a list of potential aircraft to purchase where the TBM/epic would be in the same list as a Pehnom 100. Even the Pilatus is not on that list for most even though its considered and compared by many to be on this list. The difference between a Phenom 100 and epic/TBM for most would mean the difference of hiring a pilot or flying owner/op.

Bigger turboprops, like C-130H, C-130J, A400M, etc, can not only be loud, but lots of bass as well!! (Much more interesting than any ordinary turbofans at above 20,000ft high!!)

Mike, I would recommend that you do 2 things - pilot the plane AND be a passenger (both rear and middle seats - very different experience). I had that opportunity and this is my evaluation. Epic E1000GX vs TBM 940 Epic plusses • 3k/minute climb - fuel savings by getting to altitude quicker (20 min to 34k = 1700 f/m) • 34k max altitude with a burn of 48 gallons at altitude at 333 kts • Full 1200 shaft hp • Quick turns allowed (10 minutes after shutdown) This should be verified that hot starts are allowed without motoring. • Inertial separator only needed in “heavy precip” according to rep. Not needed on takeoff, landing or in clouds - even in freezing conditions. (This should be verified.) • Auto dimming windows in the cabin. No shades. • Excellent AC - very powerful fans and cool air • LED cabin lighting • Standard sun shades can be used in the cockpit windows • $500k less than TBM Epic minuses • 3k/minute climb - This is done at a 20 degree angle and is unsettling for passengers. Rear facing passengers will be ejected from their seats without the seatbelts on and TIGHT. • G1000 vs G3000 avionics • No auto-throttle - therefore, no way to land itself, no possible “Home Safe” button • No automatic ice detection • No trim wheel - only electronic and the elevator is not smooth • No place to rest your hand to smoothly move the throttle in turbulence • Pilot & co-pilot seats not easily adjusted up/down. Up will lose leg room and the adjustment is only minor. • There is no visibility to the left of the pilot and right of the co-pilot with the seats fully aft, which is where anyone with an inseam equal or greater than 34”. This causes you to feel like you’re in a tube when you’re in the cockpit. • No pilot door. • No front baggage compartment. • Very small rear baggage compartment in the rear allowing upwards of 7 SMALL/overhead size pieces of luggage. Limited to 200 lbs. (standard) • Baggage is difficult to access. Luggage has to be carried into the aircraft. The seat(s) have to be pulled down and then bags can be placed. • Auto dimming cabin windows. Hugely expensive when they malfunction. Over $40k to replace. They also cause a rainbow effect, like an oil sheen, on every window except the one you’re next to. • Cabin windows are placed high. This can cause Closter phobic effects on the passengers. • Loud cabin • Entry door exposes a cabin window and can easily be stepped on. (Remember those really expensive cabin windows?) • Thin seats. While the interior is beautiful, the padding in the seats is nearly non-existent. After only a short flight (30 minutes or so), it felt like I was sitting on a park bench. • No seat heat • The entire aircraft has a harmonic vibration that is easily felt in your feet, legs, butt and back. It’s unsettling and reminiscent of the V tail Bonanzas - that eventually lost their tails. • The club seating configuration allows great legroom. However, the seats are not adjustable forward/backward. A “6 forward” seating configuration is not possible. • Tall airframe, so the engine is not accessible without a ladder. Oil can only be checked via a dipstick on top of the aircraft. • Windshield cannot be cleaned without a ladder. Tall aircraft. • Very small support network. TBM plusses • Fast aircraft - 330 kts at 31k (18 minutes = 1722 f/m) burning 56 gallons • TBM has longer legs (1730 vs 1385) 345+ miles better (TBM #’s based on max weight + 45 min) • Takeoff and Landing specs within 100’ of Epic • G3000 Avionics • Auto throttle - No over-torque, over-temp, etc. • “Home Safe” auto-land button • Epic does not have an electrically heated windscreen and depends on P3 air pilot side only • Pilot door • Fully and easily adjustable cockpit seats up/down forward/backward • Adjustable rudder pedals • Gap between pedals to allow leg stretching • Excellent visibility in the cockpit at all seat positions. • Trim wheel exists! • Large area to rest your palm when making throttle adjustments in turbulence. • Huge rear entry door making entry and baggage accessibility very easy • Cabin is 9” wider (but 1” shorter) • Quiet cabin • Well cushioned and comfortable seats • Seat heat • No cabin vibration - excellent passenger experience • Seats can be rear club or 6 forward configuration and adjustable for better legroom than Epic • Available lavatory • Available locker • Cabin windows have true commercial like shades • Cabin windows placed in optimum location for passenger viewing • No rainbow effects on cabin windows - although the TBM 960 now has the auto-dim windows that WILL have the same problems as Epic • Epic is like taking a ride in a 1980 Civic vs the Mercedes S Class experience in a TBM • Front luggage area (100 lbs) • Larger rear luggage area and accessible from outside the aircraft • Large support network • Shorter aircraft with instant visibility of oil level • Pilot door allows cleaning of windscreen without a ladder TBM minuses • Payload - 2771 vs Epic’s 3400 (629 lb less) • AC fan is not as strong as Epic • Inertial separator must be used on takeoff, landing and in visible moisture • Slower in climb and horrible with the separator that’s not needed with Epic • 30 minute minimum turns • External cover must be used on the front of the aircraft vs sun shades to prevent delamination • $500k more than Epic, but you get what you pay for

Very interestin plane. #salute my gud brotha!!!!!!
you're not a big guy, but when you were seated your shoulder was into the other seat so it's narrow. if you're going to spend over 4 million you have money, so for a few more bucks buy the Honda jet be able to go up into the 40 thousands ft get above all weather fl31-330 ft a lot of the times you're not out of it. and i think the last thing i'd want would be flying at night FL 330 heavy weather and i lose "THE" engine.
