I was thinking about that one for mine ... nice to see what it is before I decide on one ... will be interested in seeing you install it because I'm thinking of a vintage air unit too ... keep at it ...

I need to crack open those Vintage Air boxes next!

Thanks Bill, as always. I am surprised at the amount of fabrication you have to go with for a specific kit for a 55 Chevy. I am going to go with the Rain Gear kit as it requires no fabrication.

I just got it wired up this past weekend and I agree with you. Hindsight being 20/20, I'm probably going with the Rain Gear.

Bill just wondering if you looked at the Raingear brand. Speedway in Lincoln is about 50 miles from my house. Have fun Bill.

I did, but I want to say that it has that solid translation bar between the two and I was afraid of it conflicting with the Vintage Air unit.

Great tutorial video Bill, something that I actually need for my 57 build. Was trying to eliminate the OEM parts with cables.

It's really a simple system when you get down to it. Coming to it cold took a little bit of mental gymnastics, but once you realize the basic premise it's like DUH!

The kit I purchased used the original hardware. You could purchase an adapter to use the original knob. 56 coming along good.
@RestoringChristine19567 ай бұрын
I'm going to figure out something with the knob, even if it's to find a way to just use the handle part on the new switch shaft. Nothing a little bubble gum and duct tape can't fix!

Very interesting video. I went on their website and looked at the unit there as well. They owe you for your excellent presentation of their product! Mine is still the original set up. I have an electric wiper motor, and I hope it still works!! ;) And Happy Birthday! :)

I've been eyeing the Rain Gear kit for my 57. This looks very interesting because of how compact it should be under the dash. Looking forward to the install and test video.

Yes! I was worried about the Rain Gear kit because of those translation bars that need clear path. I don't know how well that's going to clear all of the Vintage Air parts and defroster ducting.

Wouldn’t it been easier to make the old vacuum system work?
@RestoringChristine19567 ай бұрын
Maybe, but I think it was missing some of those parts and I've never tried to figure out how it worked (not that that's ever stopped me from anything else! LOL!)

I thought about doing that on my 55 and cost was about high so into a wiper motor from amazon for $125 and mad my mounting bracket,and drive lug . Mounts insane place as stock.and is 2 speed whit adjustable range bilt in motor work's great I hope your dos too

I have the same kit but it came with a VHS tape.I have used Raingear in my last 2 Tri fives but had this one so I am going to use it.

Nothing wrong with making your own!

I used a raingear brand on my 57.it seems less labor intensive than this brand. im sure it will work great.cant wait to see the vintage air install.i hope to do that as well
@RestoringChristine19568 ай бұрын
I think it's going to be good. I was mainly concerned about the other brand clearing everything, and this one is very flexible.

Thanks for the unboxing, Bill. I want to replace the rickety cable drive on my '56 too. I was thinking about Rain Gear but there's no flexibility locating the wiper drive under the dash. I'm looking forward to seeing you install the Specialty PW wipers and how you route AC and defroster ducts.
@RestoringChristine19567 ай бұрын
I plan to unbox that Vintage Air system pretty soon and the first thing that I'm going to do is rough-in under the dash to see how much room the evaporator box takes along with the defroster ducts so that I can install that windshield wiper system. Stay tuned!

Don't forget you're in the entertainment business ! You want to keep your numbers up ! This one was about a 2 on the 1 to 10 scale .....Looking forward to the next one !

Great point, and something that I fret over when editing, trying to keep them from being boring. But, believe it or not, the most viewed videos over time are the ones where I'm unboxing something. And I just didn't have anything fun to do...
