Just mashed this in and figured I'd share my experience: - 8lbs of mashed berries and 2G grape juice brought fermenter volume to 3.35G total volume - Blended 8lbs sugar into one gallon 100F water and reheated back to 100F - Adding that mixture to fermenter brought total volume to exactly 5G @ 76F - Added one gallon 120F water to 6G total volume @ 84F and 1.090 SG Yeast pitched, capped and waiting...really looking forward to this...it really does smell wonderful!

Randy I made this last year and it turned out great! Everyone loved it so I’m getting pressure from my wife make it and gift it for the holidays! Lol! Anyway, im about to make it again. .since there really wasn’t any noticeable sugar in the berries and most of the flavor comes when you steep it after. I’m wondering if the berries are really necessary in the mash. What do you think? I might just ferment the grape juice and add the berries after.
@stillworksandbrewing Жыл бұрын
it dont sound like a bad idea give it a try and let us know how it turns out
@jeffp601410 ай бұрын
Well the results are in. I made a batch with berries up front and one without. Then steeped mixed berries in both batches for 2 weeks after distillation. I tested it on 6 people and they all could not tell a noticeable difference! As far as work, it’s a lot easier to skip the berries up front because I don’t have to strain or skim the mash to transfer to the pot. Plus I saved a few clams$$$ on berries. Have a great holiday!

Hey Randy, the time has come for me to try this brandy recipe. I've been wanting to try this ever since you published this video. We're actually going to do it on our Shine-a-Long Livestream next Sunday, April 3, 2022 at 10:00am . We'd love to have you join us if you can make it.

Do you use the yeast nutrient because of the lack of starch?

Great video Randy im making something similar but used 15lbs of wildflower honey (kind of a blood mead) and if it turns out bad I will distill it. Hope you consider uploading videos on rumble also as their are no channels like this on rumble yet.

Try a all grain mash of cracked corn and 6 row barley and then add the berries and no sugar you will love the out come the sugar gives it a little bite that the all grain don't it's smooth
@stillworksandbrewing2 жыл бұрын
maybe next time but would it still be a brandy?
@dannylee91382 жыл бұрын
@@stillworksandbrewing or use corn sugar Cain sugar leaves a little bitterness that corn sugar or all grain don't

@@stillworksandbrewing I noticed when you add the yeast you do not need to reconstitute it. Is that because you are using a special kind. Brand new to this so trying to learn as I go.

Hi Randy, sounds like a delicious recipe. Have you ever tried extracting the alcohol from a fermentation by freezing the water content? I can not remember were I saw it but it looked like a alternative to distilling. What are your thoughts? Thanks Stephen
@Suzukidave2 жыл бұрын
Freeze distilling does not remove the methanol like fractioning so look out for the hangover using the freeze method .

Try doing 2 Lb of what ever you want to find out gravity point for in 1 gallon of water to make it read higher and easier to read and then just half the results.

Im new to your channel and getting ready to buy my first still. I want to get into the hobby and try to experiment. Quick question though, do you need to use the pectic enzyme. Also what would it do if you left it out? BTW great video!
@darkhunter55942 жыл бұрын
The pectic is used to break down fruits and some grains but usually fruit makes it easier for the yeast to eat which makes it work off a little faster plus less strain on your yeast

Thats the problem with brandy. I used 20 pounds of peaches in 6gallons of water and I had to add white sugar
