Loved the Jun Watanabe edition straight away as well. Have mine still unbuilt, in the box. Just checked and even the parts , which were cheap once, have gone throught roof - $66.00 just for the chassis.

Tamiya's hornet is my first RC car. It was 1994 about that year. I was 4-5 years old.

I guess it depends who defines failure. Current Ebay resellers may not feel that way. But when they were available for well below initial offering, and not moving off shelves, I suspect Tamiya felt it was a failure. I haven't seen another one yet either, so I think big T was underwhelmed.

Only thing I like on this car is the vintage Novak electronics. I know you love your Hornets but I'll take a Nikko Rhino any day over it. Somebody was trying to get 500 to a thousand for one on OfferUp a while back. Keep up the great work you do with old school rc.

I could never afford one of these, so I was wondering if I could Make my own out of a Grasshopper I already have? If I painted the chassis, assuming I prime it, paint, and than had a fairly thick clear coat, how easily would that scratch off? As ANY rc car that comes into my possession will be driven, and jumped. period. It's inevitable. Speaking of jumping, would the white paint flake off when the springs compressed? Also one last thing, I'm probably going to sound like an idiot, but can I... paint tires? I want pink tires, but if that's not an option I can settle for black.

I just bought the decals and put them on a regular Hornet. But I'm getting worried that these have become rare. How did you paint the pink to purple fade over the rear wheel arch? Did you use Tamiya ps paint? Was this done on the topside over the white paint? I'm thinking if I ever need to replace the body I would like to just use Tamiya paints to recreate this look.

The pink to purple is tamiya PS paint. It is on the underside of the lexan. Just faded it with the cans, i am pretty good with an aerosol. Once that was painted I did the white.

Thanks, is that Tamiya PS29 Fluorescent Pink? And PS10 for the Purple? I take it you mask the underside of the body and painted the black parts around the window in the same way? I wish I'd tried this as the stickers are beginning to come off mine when I clean the mud off after running.

Na there is no way to paint the ABS successfully if you are going to drive it. The key with painting the chassis is less paint. The thinner the better as it will flex more. Thats why the white doesnt flake off the spring. It is thin and urethane. As for tires, you can indeed paint them but going to the level you are thinking wont work. Usually you can get paint for the lettering.
