I did the same as you and just replaced the gaskets on the oil cooler after cleaning the hell out of it. I bought an aftermarket water pump from rockauto and replaced the whole thing. Looks good man, keep it up!

If you put 15% reduction pulley, it’s always a good idea to put colder spark plug to allow the heat to go down a little bit

Do those oil coolers crack and allow oil and coolant to mix. Maybe worth getting a new unit?

Curious to know your level of motivation after +2 years from the beginning of your projet ? As its not a car (like a porsche or others) that will increase in value even with all your works done on it, it would be fun to kmow the motivation variation from the beginning. You seem to do it for your own achievement and its great to see it. Probably +90% of guys would have leave a projet like this since a long time. Great job, keep going on.....

This is a great question. I think I’ll add a longer answer to the start of my next video. It isn’t always easy but I am also under no fixed deadline so I don’t stress about it too much. I just use Project Binky as a time benchmark and feel slightly better.

@@RegardingAutomobiles yes, it would be fun to ear you talking about it.... its something that we dont ear about really often. I'm watching every of your video, I'm learning about the mini as much as I can... I've got some projets on the go and I'll start to work on the 2007 mini I bought for $1500, really clean but an engine problem .... I'll probably have to rebuild the engine....

Another question if you mind. I've seen in one of yor videos the hayne maual(I hate those, !!) . I was wondering if you had the mini service manual, its probably way more complete than the hayne's one. its $185cdn on amzn, but I'll buy it before beginning the restoration of my 2007 mini cooper. The shop manual was a must when I did my 94 suzuki sidekick total restoration. When looking at all your videos, it tells me that I'll probably have more work to do on my car than fisrt thought.... looking at you videos, I'll have more tools to buy.... Again , keep the good work...

Haynes is good for torque values and is okay overall. I do find it could use more details. I use KZbin, phone a friend and forum searches a lot. Realoem also helps me see how things are put together.

Be careful reusing that oil cooler if it came from the blown engine as it will have metal swarf that you won't get out

My metal coolant lines ended up being so corroded that there were holes in them. I ended up making new ones. E29 - Fixing a Coolant Leak with Custom Braided Lines kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3XSdKl6fc10d68

@@RegardingAutomobilesdo u know how to get them out? I cant seem to get access to the bolt holding them in place, does engine need to comeout?

The hard pipes are bolted on and then attach in two places on both ends. I don’t know for sure but my guess is you’d have to take the air box out to get at the one of them closest to the reservoir. Wish I could help more but I had my engine out when I worked on them.

@@RegardingAutomobiles i ended up giving up on it and just chucked laundry detergent into my expansion tank 20 mins idling and 3000 rpm sometimes, i unhooked the heat exchanger lines off the heat exchanger and off the gunk went on the inlet side, now ive chucked them both back onto the heat exchanger and hoping the outlet side will clear up. Fingers crossed
