I built my first one in a 1987 when it first come out. I built about 10 of them for a local Hobby Shop because there were no ready to run then. I don’t see any sense in modifying it today because there’s so many other monster trucks out there like the Losey LMT The clog Buster is so cool just the way it is.

Some people just go overboard with modifying their Clods. I just wanted to improve the steering and thats the only thing. Plus I really just wanted to experiment too and see the difference between stock 4WS steering and the mod steering. Thats about it for me.

I have always had a look on this RC truck for decades. I was maybe 24-25 years old when the first version came out. I finally bought this gray version at last after 35 years at 60 years old… what can I say… i’m an old kid.

This RC truck has been around since the 80s. Tamiya got that one right!

I got my first clod in 94 for my 14th birthday. It was my first brand new rc. I was nuts about that thing! I foolishly sold it in my later teen years. Then I grew away from cods for their lack of scale realism. I watched all the other versions come out and ignored them. It wasn't until I saw this one that it reignited that wide eyed love I had as a kid. IMHO this is the best looking version ever released. Tamiya really nailed the retro 80's look with the sky blue and the blocky digital graphics. I ordered one as soon as the preorder was open and now I just need to get the time to build it. The 14 year old in me is screaming at the adult to "HURRY UP AND BUILD IT!"

Thanks for sharing and reminiscing... I have to agree with you on the fact that this hobby brings out the inner kid in us. Crack it open and start building! Do a couple steps a night as thats what I do. Next thing you know time flys and you're done. Hope you get started on the build soon. Enjoy.

We love our clods. Mine is built with bearings and Holmes retro sport motors, my sons is stock silver cans and bushings. They’re a total blast to run together

I left mine the stock grey because I like it better than the dark gunship grey and it matches the wheels better. After I put all the stickers on it , it looks GREAT!

Cool video. I was into this hobby back when I was 15 years old. I'm in my 40's now and I'm thinking of getting back into it. Love the clodbuster. Be perfect for me because my driveway is gravel and I have a decent amount of property to run it on

Nice clod vid! I love clodbusters! I own every clodbusters and a bullhead the only truck I’m missing is the chrome edition that I’m still in search of and a bust up vintage 87 stuck in my closet that truck is about to get restored when I have time. 👍🏼

I always wanted a Clodbuster (and the Bullhead) as a kid. Managed to get a Super Clodbuster a couple of years ago. I put one of those engine sound systems in it as well.

That “Sounds” pretty cool lol… those system can be pretty pricey. At least the Tamiya ones

wow, that is a beautiful Clod, I just purchased the black edition, I had my first one in 89, had put a snowplow on it, aluminum wheels but I loved the 4 wheel steering as unstable as it was lol, I should have never got rid of it, I won't be getting rid of this one!

Love the Gray Clod.!! The infamous Clodbuster was my intro into hobby grade rc's. The Super Clodbuster was released when I got mine and I went with the Chrome edition. I found it so amazing that I made several mods on my chrome edition Clod and even build 6 other heavily mod Clod creations that you mentioned just from the gearboxes. I even made my own stub axles to fit any type of wheel and tire combo but the one thing I've yet to try is the behind axle steering. Hmm.....Guess I'll add that idea to my next two mod Clods😎

I’d have to agree with you as far as modified Clod Busters not being a “Clod Buster“ anymore, but with an asterisk. I think, as long as it’s mostly stock, it’s still a Clod Buster. If it’s modified to within an inch of its life, I’d call it “Clod based“ because it’s not really,l a ClodBuster anymore, just as you said.

How well did the decals adhere to the matt finish? Great content as always btw. Really enjoy your no "fluff" video's and your passion for the hobby. I think you have a really unique channel here.
@RCRetro Жыл бұрын
Cool.. thanks for that compliment. I appreciate it. The decals had no issues adhering to the matt finish. It got really dusty out there on the ball field and was cleaned with an air compressor afterwards. All the dirt came off. No decals lifted and its been fine since.

Do you plan on getting some aftermarket motors to make it faster? I would recommend jconcepts silent speed 17t adjustable timing 540 motors. Just a thought.

It's best to have more than one Clod. I have one stock (except bearings) and one heavily modded. Best of both worlds.
@_blood_moon_proto_1500 Жыл бұрын
i just got a normal clodbuster, so far of what i have seen, the only mods im going to initially plan to do is forgo the bumpstops on the shocks and trim the chassis tub to allow for full use of the shocks and get oil shocks that fit (except ballrace, i don't even consider it a hop up, i just consider it to be standard parts that i get automatically) so whats up with the tyre wax? just scrub the tyres in hot soapy water or leave them to soak?
@Cyberdyne_research Жыл бұрын
I’m debating buying a tamiya kit, or buying 100% aftermarket parts. Both are awesome rc but I don’t think you can get rid of 90% of the car and still call it a super clod. Nothing wrong with that though. They make excellent scale monster trucks that can do more and look better than a LMT, and the best part is that it’s not a losi. Should I buy all the aftermarket parts and build one from scratch? Or buy a kit and keep it beautiful, or both? Both is good too.
@RCRetro Жыл бұрын
If you could do both than why not lol... 2 is better than one.
@JoevsRc Жыл бұрын
How wide of turn does it make with the rear locked?
@RCRetro Жыл бұрын
Turning is still not the greatest but better and more precise than the wonky 4WS. It turns wider when on the throttle... ease up on the throttle and it makes less narrow more sharp turns... The overall control of the truck was much better.
@bradkalman2353 Жыл бұрын
Why did you lock out the rear steering?
@RCRetro Жыл бұрын
I wanted to try something different. With the 4WS it over steers and can turn almost in the drop of a dime which I guess is kind of cool. But sometimes it will roll over.
@bradkalman2353 Жыл бұрын
@@RCRetro you could do servo on axle staring and reduce the dual rate.

Purchased my First Clod Buster, First RC kit. I ended up buying the Tamiya Servo TSU-03. For some reason, it did not come with screw. I am new to this. No idea what kind of screw to use. Is it a slef tapping screw I use? I don't see threads on the Tamiya Servo. I tried to use a 3x6 machine screw but did not fit. I didn't want to force it. Advice?

The way I see it is how they do it for real cars. If you put a 1965 Mustang body on a 2012 BMW ... It's still a 65 Mustang according to the Department of Motor Vehicles.
