So today we are back on the E30 V8 engine swap, I want this car to be up and running as fast as possible, but I also dont want to cut corners and I want to do a good job on this car.. (well, to an extent hahah)
So there are a few jobs which we have to do whilst the engine is out, as it will be a lot more difficult to do these jobs with the engine in the car, and those are: 1) paint the bay 2) run a custom alternator belt set up 3) make sure the engine mounts are going to fit easily
So lets get these jobs completed so we can drop the engine in!

Go to the scrapyard and get an alternative tensioner bracket, loads of cars have got them, the one you've made is too flimsy.

A steel plate like that with only one mounting point is going to have too much rotational force on it, it will swivel and lose tension. You need two mounting bolts so it can't rotate, and thick steel so it can't bend

Agreed, simplest way would be to just run a stretch belt though on a fixed alternator

When you first drive the Reliant, are you going to do any other mods before the drive? Note the front A arm can fail in these if it was sitting for a while. As in the arm itself which is hollow, can snap if it's badly rusted. That arm is actually the most prone to rust spot in Reliant 3 wheelers. The front shock absorber can do that too. Take car of the front suspension and if you're going to go on the motorway, I suggest getting a new "KingPin assembly".

glad to see its not just me that struggles to get the cap off a rattle can, when you made the adjustor bracket for the alternator you said you were going to put in a 16mm spacer , i would have just made the bracket out of 16mm metal just for the strength , great video again though

Talk to Lee at Bare Bum I mean Barum Engines here on KZbin, he could talk your ears off about Beemers :) See, if it was for me I would put in a 750iL V12, the V12 has the same footprint as the 525e six banger as it is basically two 525e engines merged into one so parts also easy to find. The V12 with the "right" Alpina mods and upgrades is a 200mph motor and gets there double fast too...

He does a lot of things backwards. He said Subaru has a sliding bracket (so do many other vehicles) I'd have jumped on ebay and bought a ²nd hand factory bracket. But knowing me, I'd have just got a short double sided ribbed belt and used the original tensioner. He makes life hard for himself 😅
@itsleelockwood
@itsleelockwood 6 ай бұрын
Still would have lifted the belt off the alternator. Would have had basically zero contact patch after the tensioner lifted it up
@ZafiraSteve
@ZafiraSteve 6 ай бұрын
@itsleelockwood no, because with a double sided ribbed belt. You could have gone either side of the tensioner 😉
