You have way more restraint than me, I'd build that kit in a heartbeat, lol. I got a Big Boss for my 11th birthday in 1989. It was my 2nd RC car, first was a Grasshopper/Hornet clone called the World Engines Rock Buster. Man, I loved my Big Boss, it was a tough capable basher for an 11 year old in '89. I put that truck through the ringer and honestly never broke a functional part. The body and all the chrome were beat to snot, but it never stopped running. I don't remember what ever happened to it and I miss it so much. I really wish Kyosho would re-release these trucks. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I would like to see more re-re monster trucks. I would feel way less guilty building one of those than an original. Nice find! Tamiya if you watch this please bring back the bush devil and king cab! Kyosho if you watch this please bring back the original tracker or the nitro tracker!!!

I love all the crusher series. As a kid in the late 80’s and early 90’s being a fan of the golden era of monster trucks, I’d drool over the monsters in RC car action. I’d love to have a big boss and the hi rider corvette in my collection.. hope you’re doing good Ari. Are you back in the house yet??

Interesting. As I mentioned on FB I bought two used recently, one complete, one needing repair. One was the Big Boss, the other, the Boss. I actually traded the boss body off with a guy in Alaska for Big Brute parts. Videos of them on my channel. Hope things with the house are going according to plan.

The 540 motor is like that because of the production when it’s stamped out they use a very light oil in the process and if it’s not cleaned off properly which it probably would have done if it was built in it’s early life over the years it slowly ingresses into the metal and that’s why you get that almost rainbow effect I’ve had one/two motors that have done that! TBH Shows its originality 😊
@RCRetro
@RCRetro 15 күн бұрын
Thanks for that info. I figured it has something to do with time or maybe the oil from the plastic bag it was in. I looked at my Hi-Rider Corvette with the same motor and its Silver. Regardless, now I know why its gold / rainbow looking. Thanks again.

Nice. The motor is done with a different chromate color so it came that way.

@RCRetro
@RCRetro 15 күн бұрын
You're not far off in regards to a step up from the bandit. These monster trucks were big, heavy and brittle. Nothing like modern bashers we see today. I have a few videos of the original electric Kyosho USA-1. In one of the videos within the first 30 seconds I broke something. I think it was the steering block if I recall. Fun times.

It probably won't happen to you, but one thing I've seen with peanuts is they can break down and attach themselves to surfaces to stuff like lexan especially - that's a cool kit, as kids we were never really Kyosho AND Tamiya guys, we were always Tamiya in my group of friends. I don't know what it was, I just never really liked Kyosho's build quality or grade of plastics.

After the video, when I repacked everything, I took all the packing peanuts out and used white tissue paper rather than newspaper that had colored ink.

Yeah way too heavy trucks & needs aluminum chassis braces to be somewhat ok too run, but not jump lol. (These braces are available online as people restore these & the kyosho double dare monster trucks.) But man do they look nice. The new kyosho usa-1 is something I've been considering to buy but it's quite expensive in Sweden as well.

@@Mini-z1994 the way the chassis broke was clipped a rock with side of tire came to dead stop broke right where the steering block goes through plus didn't have the upper chassis cover on at the time but after the chassis was replaced next weak point was the nylon dog bones /drive shafts would twist in half an pop out i still have most of the truck at some point ill rebuild it with all those nice aluminum bits

Do you still have it or is it long gone ? Some of these old trucks have gotten pretty collectible so could easily get something more modern for it if you aren't up for getting it running now instead. Some new electronics like a hobbywing 880 brushed esc for the dual motors, maybe solder on an extension too one of the motors if needed & a standard steering servo thats like 15 - 25 kg. Maybe the aluminium chassis braces as well as these trucks are quite brittle without those, almost all of those trucks filmed these past id say 6 - 7 years on KZbin has them. 7.2v nimh rechargable pack, should be available on various places between like 3000 - 5000 mah made of sub C cells & charger ofc for it, but might be able to find a suitable 2s lipo as well. Then a modern 2.4 ghz radio & receiver, something like a flysky gt2e if you dont care much for functionality should be good enough, otherwise the gt3b or gt3c, great but cheap radios for having a runner rc.
