3 things here 1. Didn't look at this game but across the league umps are scoring mainly as on scorecard 2. Nelson is known for a big zone. He's calling them a bit outside. Every umpire struggle with a quadrant. That's ok. Lot of umps have extended outside zones. Jazz Should know this he's been playing his whole life 3. Good god is he animated. Correct ejection. Maybe a bit of a wide zone. It's a day game at the Marlins. I'd expect a big zone if I was Jazz. Then again I only played college ball a bit :/

you’re not wrong and I know i’ll get filleted for this, but a strike should be a strike, bottom line. players spend decades mastering plate discipline only for every umpire to “struggle with a quadrant” or whatever the excuse of the week is. Jazz was way too animated and demonstrative in his reaction, but we can’t act like these hitters aren’t somewhat justified in getting pissed off by a constantly-revolving strike zone, especially when technology could remedy that shortcoming.

This is a horrible take, if the ball isn’t in the zone it’s not a strike, that’s what a strike is. Ump has a big strike zone? He needs to have the correct strike zone, can’t wait for electronic strike zones. Umps have too much control over games.

I’m just growing increasingly tired of players and coaches ejected for arguing judgement…and then coming back to the umpire and “getting their money’s worth” and continuing and in most cases, escalating the argument. If you are ejected…leave…the…field. MLB could end this tomorrow with a rule amendment that further penalizes a player or coach who continues to argue with an umpire after being ejected but, the truth is, MLB loves selling the drama and it’s nonsense that the umpires have to put up with this in the name of “entertainment”.

To be fair, some of the umpires in MLB have no business being in that job. Case in point, Angel Hernandez. ( But he isn't the only one). @@hockeytard1 There are 76 full-time umpires in MLB. Compare that to 700 players...I can assure you every MLB umpire has every bit of business being in that job. Mistakes have been made, mistakes will continue to be made. That is baseball. That is sports. Notice how little it takes for a player or coach to become unglued at an umpire's call. Then think about the last time you saw a player make a mistake and swing at a pitch outside the strike zone, or a base coach make a mistake and send the base runner home and they are tagged out. The umpire says nothing...not one word to them about how awful they are, what a terrible mistake they made, cussing them, etc. My little league coach used to tell me the umpires will miss 12 calls today...can you still find a way to win the ballgame?

I am really frustrated because today I was pitching in high school baseball and I was playing an umpire that I have never pitched to before and he saw my windup and said it was illegal even though I have never had anyone having a problem with it. I always start my windup with my hands at my side with the first batter, or no one on base because I pitch from the stretch when someone is on base. I take a step back with my left foot, my forward one to start my windup and keep my momentum going the entire windup. After I take my step back, I swing my leg up and bring my hand into my mitt at my chest. I then take my step forward and will throw the ball. Can someone explain to me what the problem is with that or if it was just that umpire who had a problem with it. If anyone needs further explaining on how I do my windup because it’s sort of hard to explain, just comment.

So there's a game with pitch timers that doesn't get much attention, but the pitch timers JUST WORK. In NCAA softball, both the pitcher and the batter have the same 10 seconds to get into the box and get into the circle (softball's "mound). Once the batter is in the box and the pitcher is in the circle, the pitcher has 10 seconds to step onto the pitching plate and take a sign. After they take a sign, they are required to bring their hands together and pitch within 5 seconds of doing so. It just works. (Granted, pickoffs to an occupied base aren't a thing) It just works.

too close to take kid... whether the ump is right or wrong it not relevant.. you complaining/arguing IS WRONG. Two wrongs don't make a right, it merely makes it twice as bad.. and with the rules saying the umps call is final... guess what's going to give if you argue? MLB needs to lose that box

In fact, you don't even have to have any experience to attend the Minor League Umpire School, and if you are as good as you say, they will give you a contract before the week-long camp is over. There is a national officials shortage. Can we count on you to grab a mask and indicator?
