高崎駅で併合するのはE4系が最初で最後というのがこれまた一つの特徴であり、引退までに本数が減ると廃止されそうですね。見に行ってみようかな？

It appears that the E4 Series Shinkansen may operate for several more years. They had planned to phase them out on the _Toki_ service between Tokyo and Niigata, but the loss of (I think) ten E7/W7 train sets due to flooding in the Nagano area earlier this year may mean the E4's may undergo another major refurbishment soon to extend their operational life to as late as 2026.
