Yeah I remember rebuilding the VANOS unit 2 summers ago.. getting that oil pump disk back together into the unit was a royal PITA; those springs and caps are STUPID! lmao ;) now I'm back disassembling her again for a cut/cooper ring head gasket replacement and valve shim job.. thanks again for all your AMAZING videos! Your helping me keep repairs on my 04 M3 cheap and straightforward! lol

At 12:59.....the unit you are removing is called the “VANOS Adjustment Module” (11-36-7-838-161). I have seen it also referred to as “AT(Adjustment Timing) Unit. The Pressure Accumulator is at the lower end of the vanos oil feed line. I hope this will help. So many thousands of parts to keep track of. Thanks again for the vids. 👍

Thanks for these awesome videos! A tip for getting the Vanos off the head as mine was beyond stuck and couldn’t fit anything between to pry it off: use a rubber mallet and tap vanos at an angle towards the front of the car. It will pop right off and you also don’t risk scratching any of the mating surfaces.

Do you think just the pump disk is enough, or would you replace the exhaust hub with something like the VAC hub and leave the pump disk alone now?
@Khan_Art_5 жыл бұрын
You are right, a lot of DIY'er mess up the timing on this job. Even when everything seems to be working properly and the car passes the vanos test. If you put your car on the dyno and it doesn't keep making power to redline (the graph flat lines), the timing is off. It's a PITA if you do not know what you are doing.

Thanks for another great video! I've got a Beisan Oil Pump Disc problem. While reassembling the Beisan oil pump disc and reinstalling it into the VANOS body, I noticed that the diameter of one of the holes on the side of the disc that houses the small spring-loaded pin caps was to narrow... None of the four pin caps fit into that one hole and are able to move freely inside. The only way to get any of the pin caps inside of the hole is to force it in with a rubber mallet (the pin cap gets stuck in place and does not move freely once forced in). All of the four pins fit into the other three holes on the side of the oil pump disc just fine and are able to move freely once inside, so I don't think the issue lies with the diameter of the pin caps. Have you ever heard of this problem before? Is there any remedy to this problem besides sending the disc back to Beisan to get drilled out a bit more? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

i think I skiped a tooth on my e46 s intake manifold? will it still run? becouse mine runs but not that well no niose either from valves clacking iether would you hesr the valves hiting if the intake was off one tototh?
@bsouza16755 жыл бұрын
The most difficult to understand part of the work is removal and reinstallation of the spline gears. They need to be in the exact position. Just one gear tooth off and your your S54 will not develop its full power. 2 teeth off and you can hit the valves with the pistons. Yikes!
