Hi guys great vlog question is when you bought your licence ect did you get your access key or codes supplied to be able to use the canal side facility I.e Elsan points and water also are the elsan points free to dispose regards julie
@welldeckdiaries56104 жыл бұрын
Julie Crossingham No, we purchased a BW key from a chandlers this is a Yale looking key and it got it name from British water ways, hence BW. This will open all locks to water points, elsan facilities, toilets, showers, bin compound. Yes elsan is free, unless you pop into a marina to do it, then they charge a small fee £1 to £2 pounds I believe

Well done for the very confident reverse to the chandlers, Mark. Reversing is always more of an art than a science and I once drove a narrowboat (very briefly) that seemed to do the complete opposite of anything I have ever been told about reversing. I think your golden rule of 'do everything on tickover' is probably the only 'golden rule' that works. The old 'Squirt and point' works in some boats, but not narrowboats, I find. I have had conversation with Michael from Minimal list, who seems to have a knack for it, but even he admits 'Perseverance' is blessed with underwater contours that make her a good (or better than most) at reversing. He even says their bow thruster tends to overheat quite quickly! When I was taught to drive displacement boats (like work boats and whalers) the rule was a combination of 'Squirt & Point' and 'Point the rudder (not the tiller) in the required direction and go idle astern'. Sometimes it works! Although my favourite whaler would turn 360 degrees in almost her own length, with care. The method of 'winding' a displacement boat involves going hard rudder and either ahead or astern, followed by opposite rudder and ahead or astern appropriately. I've noticed narrowboaters don't seem to do that. Also, some people 'squirt ahead' and put the tiller over and then full astern to stop the motion. I was taught to slow, almost to a stop, put the tiller over and then increase power to start the fast turn, back off to idle and allow it to almost come to a stop. Then go astern until it starts to move, put the tiller over and set throttle to achieve the effect you want. Obviously, that's where it gets questionable, as to how any given boat responds! It looked good from here, though. Well done.
@welldeckdiaries56104 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, Ive watched Michaels reversing skill and have always been impressed, but as you say all boats handle differently. I don't think Id want to try anything as big as a whaler, my 60 footer is plenty big enough for me
@rogerwhittle20784 жыл бұрын
@@welldeckdiaries5610 Oh don't be too impressed Mark! 'Mr Wells' was (still is) an Ex Admiralty, 30ft motor whaler. She used to have an air cooled diesel, so she could be started up and tested as she was being swung out. Now she has a very nice, 3 cylinder Yanmar diesel. She is a lovely boat to drive and, of course, much, much lighter and handier than a narrowboat - with a keel! I have even driven her on the Thames near Greenwich, towing sailing boats. I could probably have done what you did, but not at the same time as giving coherent commentary on what was happening and pointing out where you were going! I remain impressed at your joint skills, after your adventures on, I think, the River Nene, in near flood conditions? As I have said to Michael, I do not like tidal or flooding rivers with a narrowboat - there's just too much 'sideways'.

Hi again folks, thanks ever so much for posting this, we went down the Hatton flight a couple of years back and we mistakenly thought that the Saltesford arm was totally private so we didn't venture down. Wish we had now, could have done with using the facilities, especially the pump out, and knowing that there's coal for sale there is very useful indeed. As always you've been very informative and a pleasure to watch your vids. Many thanks. Hope to meet up with you sometime. All the very best. Kind Regards Martin and Di Nb Florence 👍👍👍

ANOTHER great vid. The best part for me was debbie laughing so much there were tears in her eyes, it made me laugh too and I dont know what I was laughing at! My dogs teeth cost 350 quid first time that included some extractions, then 18months later another 350 quid for another clean polish and two extractions. ( he still has dogs breath but is around 15yrs old.) Its no easier going in reverse on a catamaran, you should see me single handed turning it round to get into a marina berth and there is no one to fend off. Keep turning out the excellent vids they make my day/ week/month., and DO keep including shots of debbie laughing.

She (Bonnie) was fantastic with other dogs until she hit 2 years old (she is 7 now), and she literally turned overnight. Goes into vicious attack mode as soon as she sees another dog, can't explain it, she was the most social dog you could wish for. Alfie on the other hand looks upon all dogs and people as potential friends. They both done all the puppies socialisation classes, I think with terriers there is always that risk
@deborahhockley79584 жыл бұрын
Kathleen Lench we have two borders and both are so different Bonnie is bit of a nervous dog and Alfie is just so friendly but a little vocal I think the best thing I would tell you is to socialise any dog very young so they are used to other dogs but wouldn’t change my pups for the world 😊 thankyou so much for watching and taking the time to comment. It works out something anywhere in the region of 1p to 4p per view, but you can hit the skip button after 5 secs. When I'm watching other peoples youtube vids I seldom watch the adds, unless its something that catches my attention. Thanks for watching Justin and taking the time to comment t👍

It will take a whole year shopping at Lidl to recoup that £250, never thought of setting up the dawgs own insta account, they’re a lot more watchable that us. High maintenance, Ha Ha, I’ll pass that one on at arms length 👍

Arghhh me again lol , dried food is the source of your k9 issues , tartar in particular, I had a JRT that lost a tooth mysteriously, I hadn't had at his his teeth for probably two years until the said tooth fell out. When I investigated I was horrified to find the source of his breath issue and tartar were a direct result of feeding dried he had to have seven more teeth pulled immediately and risked kidney damage (yes my fault entirely.)As for vaccinations, read up on it , not from Wikipedia or wikipeado as I prefer to call them or from dog food manufacturers or vets (who make a killing literally on our dogs diets and vacs, my vet feeds raw 😉) if you really are concerned get an antibodies test done instead of vacs and see for yourself how immune your k9family are from the horribles !! Sorry to rant but I have been there , no guilt spending on your loyal friend no matter what , what the vet says goes, you owe it to the dog etc , the vet knows best and cares as much as you do . I can't put this any other way than it's "bollocks" and you know your dog better than anyone. Of the many strains of leptospirosis one of which is known as Whiels (check spelling) after the discoverer , the vaccination doesn't immunize against it , this is the strain that kills humans and dogs. If a dog has a healthy natural diet it's antibodies are truly shocking , if we had that kind of resistance the pharmaceutical companies would be out of business tomorrow and not a day to soon . Love your channel , I live for my dogs and they live for me . I'm not buying a skinny boat just yet either as I said I was I'm buying a yacht , got a bit of adventure left in me so there you go. Happy travels guys , sorry for the rant but I can't shut my mouth about corporate greed hurting shit willy nilly

Wow, that was some reply, thanks, ive always wondered whether the yearly boosters are needed, but its drummed into use our dawgs will self destruct if we don't, Vet always lead me to believe dry was the best as it cleans their teeth as they crunch it, how wrong was I😳 Good luck with your yacht adventure 👍
