I know the car community can suck with how that treat females or just attitude towards women talking about vehicles at all. This is an insanely comprehensive and thorough video. Keep up the excellent above and beyond work.

Every time something simple goes on these cars I'm amazed by how many parts have to come off just to get to it lol. I always look for a video like this first to find the easiest way to get access.

(Second one) 2008 e92 335i auto rwd, I cleaned some contacts in the fuse box and rewired the black wire connector under the blue connector on the right side of the shifter because it got broken. Now no start/crank, no Idrive, no dash lights, key don't lock in

Great video Bogi! Very detailed! I watched the working from home episode, a couple weeks back and until today it was in the back of my mind, what happened with it? And now I know. I'm not a BMW guy, but i did want to see what what was involved in replacing the starter. I know now I will never attempt it, I'll stick to my Toyota. If it's not a conflict of interest, you really should do more videos like this. I really enjoyed it. Great camera work, a natural in front of it, professional and yet laid back. Thanks Bogi!

Nice job and great teaching. I was curious why it wouldn’t start. As for me, I think I’d rather replace the starter on the Metropolitan.
@scottzimmerman76674 жыл бұрын
I think that it would be a good idea to actually bench test the new starter before installation. A lot of work to do it all over again if the new starter is bad for some reason.
@BogisGarage4 жыл бұрын
Scott Zimmerman true. I purchased an OE starter from BMW and from experience I have never had an issue with one bad out of the box. But you are correct, always a good habit to be in.

My starter is not coming out after removing the bolts. Think it is the corrosion. I have tried spraying WD 40, and prying with a flathead. Could the teeth be stuck to the flywheel? If not what else should I do, if someone can pls suggest

If you live in the rust belt check the braided steel ground wire. A poor ground will give you the same no crank symptoms.

Great video! Any idea what failed on the starter? Solenoid? This symptom was similar to my daily driver Lincoln that had its starter go last month - same deal like yours it worked great, then I came out of the parts store to nothing 🤣. Turned out the short wire from the solenoid to the motor had broke in half from age/heat/corrosion. Still replaced with an OEM starter since it had 130k on it. Anyway awesome video, thank you!
@BogisGarage4 жыл бұрын
Vortex Garage I think it was the force field around the parts store that causes parts to fail so they drive up sales. 😂🤣 more realistically it was the solenoid that’s failed ;)
@VortexGarage4 жыл бұрын
@@BogisGarage 🤣🤣 Now I'm suspicious when the parts store clerk said "have a nice day, see you again soon!" as I walked out to my dead starter. That force field may explain it!!

Sorry for delay in responding! Did you get it sorted out? Mine wasn’t making noise at all. I honestly expected it to be something else and was surprised when it had proper signal and was just a bad starter. Lol.

Hi, Thank god for women like you. I have a quick question so i own a 325i 2006 BMW 3 days ago it wouldn't start, so i looked at some vids then said to myself it has to be the relay, so i installed new one worked great but then 2 days later it did the same thing so i pulled relay out and then put it back in and the car started again. But my question is why would it be doing that?
@jhuntosgarage4 жыл бұрын
If you have to "remove a ton of stuff to make your life easier", is it really making your life easier? Not a fan of BMWs. Seems like they're waaay over engineered. At least the starter isn't buried under the intake like the Cadillac Northstar. Very informative and well presented. Thanks for sharing.
@BogisGarage4 жыл бұрын
J. Hunto's Garage lol. Fair. But it’s not just BMWs these days where you need to take half the car apart to get to anything. I may be biased, but I find BMWs to be pretty technician friendly in the grand scheme of things.

Did the car have more and more trouble starting?
@BogisGarage4 жыл бұрын
dog2bert it kinda did, kinda didn’t. On 2 occasions (months apart) it acted like it didn’t wanna... but always did. Then one day, at the most inopportune time, it just did nothing.

Wait! Hold on. No you didn’t just “fix” it. Now it’s REPAIRED. There IS a difference. Fixing it would’ve been fidly gumming with the solenoid affixed to the starter until that starter worked again. Then it would’ve been fixed (until it failed again) :-) well done.
