If it's not too late to change the rain on the camera, droplets won't just stay or slide down slowly when you're doing 165kph, they ought to streak away from the center, eventually leaving the screen allowing for more memory to be used in rendering the next droplets.

Yes the rain looks terrible. Snow is hardly better. Also no headlight shadows and environmental lighting seems a bit bland. I'm not a total graphics guy but I like Details and this feels like a step backwards. Hopefully gameplay is better.

Looks and sounds solid! However, I feel like there's one thing missing from the sound design and that's stones and gravel hitting the underside of the car (ACC, even as a track based game, does this extremely well when you go off racing line or off track)... adding this would emphasise the gravel vs tarmac changes and add a more realistic feeling to the game overall.

That was the number 1 thing I noticed about dirt rally 1 and 2. The underside gravel sound effects were spot on and super immersive. Also useful when driving. If they don't have this in their third game I will be severely disappointed

Yeah but it's a bit tricky to tell how the physics are, without hands-on-wheel. And obviously FFB. You can see how the suspension moves from a video and such... make some estimates on how the physics will be.... but to know for sure, you need hands on. For example Dirt Rally 2 looked promising on videos, but when it launched, people were not happy with FFB. Also nobody really knew beforehand, that the tarmac still feels odd... subtleties will not be apparent on gameplay videos

I really hope they add some granularity and 'depth' to the track surface itself. One of the things I think KT Racing did REALLY well was the granularity of the road surface itself, potholes and divets and bumps and corner cambers you could throw your tire into to drag yourself around a corner. The courses themselves look amazing, and the physics looks great but I cant help be underwhelmed by the look of the surface itself

i think the target of the game is being as largely accessible as it can, for the average Joe who lays on the couch after a hard days work. If you look at EA's titles that's what you'll find. This tactic is hated by the long-loving community of any game series but it brings more money in the investors pockets than any other. When I first saw that the tacho doesnt even have any rev numbers on it and how simple gravel/snow physics are compared to the DRally 1&2 i figured out this will not be a follow up on the Colin/Dirt series as we've been accustomed to when speaking of Codemasters.

If a driver does something dangerous like pushing people of the track everytime another driver tries to overtake him, he would get 2-3 warnings, and after if the driver is still driving dangerously he will be shown the black flag which means he is disqualified from the race. He is interchanging red flag with black flag because in racing terms its still bad.

Other than a slight improvement in sound, I can't really tell any big difference between this series and the last one. It feels like the car is floating on the road; there's no gravity or downforce. And I still see that same stiff motion without any body roll when turning after slowing down, just like before. To be honest, maybe I expected too much, but I'm pretty disappointed.

Obviously you're yet to reveal 80's mode in which we get to turn sharp left into a crowd of fans who have gathered on the track to get right in on the action and somehow manage to flee out of harms way at the last second. I look forward to that... I know it's really not a very important detail but it would be nice to have a bit more life in the crowd though.

Such thing was in Gran Turismo 4 I guess, where people were running away from you so you never could hit them. I also think that it would be an interesting detail in the 80's mode and not only (although in a smaller scale in other years). It would be okay if they would be appearing just further away and be just some textures, nothing else. Similar with some animals, that also could just cross the road randomly but never in a way to be hit. Would be enough to put you off the "rythm" for a second if the timing of such random event would be correct.

The track locations always have their own feeling and aesthetic I love it!!! DR2.0 locations all felt immersive and different from one another and it seems they have carried that over tenfold!

Very interested to see the tarmac physics. The DR2 tarmac felt like WRC when running a loose surface tires on tarmac. Love Tarmac rallying so this is a big fix I'm hoping for

Codemasters, this is a silly nitpick but can you have the spectators be more excited? I'm sure more than one of you have been to a rally event and everyone goes wild when a car passes by (specially since you've been standing there for hours). Gran Turismo 4 had really cool crowds that really pumped you up as you drove past them, I'd love to see this in the game!

00:40 it's kinda what I feared regarding the "summer rallies in winter" gimmick. The way the snow is applied looks very artificial, with an unnaturally, perfectly straight line visible at the side of the road where the snow overlay texture begins and ends.

i like how the game looks so far, my concern is the sound design. in Dirt Rally 2.0, you could practically feel every little rut and bump because the car would not only react when you went slightly off track, but you could hear it. the moment your tire would run over a rough bit of road or the edge of the track, you could hear in great detail how the tires where reacting to that rougher terrain. for me this is a huge deal breaker for me, i value sound design immensely and poor sound quality or lack of sounds really breaks the immersion. i really hope they expand on the sound design and add the detail dirt rally 2.0 had, because that games sound is quite incredible.

The gameplay looks great and just as fun as DR 2.0 it's just that, I don't know about these co-drivers. I feel like you just can't replace Phil Mills. Especially on the more intense stages, the way he reads the pace notes really sell the intensity of it. Don't get me wrong it's nice to have clarity and be precise especially in Rally but, personally, I feel like more urgency would be immersive. I'm sure they'll grow on me though.

Honestly I think more options is a good thing, have some famous co drivers and that for the people that wanna get into that whole vibe but honestly I think having more lesser known voices makes it feel a bit more like you are actually starting out in your own small team. Phil Mills is the single reason I love DR2.0 so much. My only guess with this new codriver sounds robotic to fit like puzzle pieces for other stages. Phil hand wrote and recorded the DR2.0 Stages making that feel that much more realistic and highly detailed. Its breaks immersion a bit in this gameplay video

Yea. I hope that there is an option for realistic damage where taking those cuts too aggressively will mess up your suspension and/or when you hit a tree your radiator goes pop and then you cry on the side of the road after putting in an hour of driving a rally. Nothing like feeling the fear of throwing your rally away on every turn.

Happy with what was shown. Tarmac looks okay, grip levels on dirt seem to have been improved in how no longer the car is super floaty initially and getting too much grip on slides, graphics look clear and even with the lower bitrate it's easy to distinguish the different stuff on the road. Looking forward to it and I hope the game feels at least as good as it looks.

I believe the low res on the ground is due to the dynamic tracks and the way you usually go about it in this engine. See the best and most versatile way to do it is with virtual textures, but that tends to look off. @@socks2441

@@socks2441 4k and bitrate is two different things bro. KZbin Premium offers higher bitrates, higher bitrates provides more detail per frame. KZbin compresses these even though you have a 4k resolution.

I was a fan of Craig Breen and after seeing his emotional 2nd place finish in Rally Sweden... it really was crushing when the news broke. His passion for rallying was incredible. His stage end interviews were truly memorable. He is still greatly missed.

I’m a sim racer. The most important things to me for this game to be a success are: Excellent VR support. Good optimization and frame rates, good compatibility with various VR platforms, etc. Wheel support and FFB. I need communicative and immersive FFB, with support for most wheels and wheel rims. Physics. Cars should feel and behave accurately and realistically. If it’s too hard for the casual player then they just need to get good. This is a WRC licensed game that is supposed to recreate the experience of driving a rally car. If you want to make an arcade racer, bring back SF Rush from the 90’s. I would buy the hell out of that game too but it’s a different game. Really hoping this is an amazing rally simulator that will knock RBR off the podium and take advantage of all the modern advancements in immersive gameplay like VR and FFB wheels. Best of luck and hoping for a killer rally sim!

It's a little nonsense, but I would like to know if the points system is well implemented (WRC-2 cars also score for WRC), unlike in previous games, because it is somewhat unsatisfying to see a classification with only 12-13 drivers

Looks pretty promising. The only thing I´ll never understand is the lack of spectators in rally games. In real life, rally stages are bursting of crowds. That would definitely add to the immersion.

Unfortunately I think it’s highly unlikely we’ll see Toyota in anything other than the rally1 Yaris, tbh. It seems to be like pulling teeth to get them to work with you as a developer.

My concerns: not having better damage (that affects driving) like WRC Generations. I think that's the strongest point in that game. Having to adapt after a crash or bad jump, is gold. Everything else looks solid to me. Just hoping the physics are good of course :) GG

Yeah that’s the only thing that stuck out to me here. When he touched the armco in the rally 1 car I feel like that should have done a little more. But also this could have been on lower damage for whatever reason

I think the onboard needs more shaking and turning left and right when sliding. Also backfire animation should be faster because it looks like it's in slow motion anddoesn't feel realistic.

Seasonal changes on the stages really effects the visuals dramatically as does the different lighting/weather conditions, looks very nice indeed 👍 But will their be thunder storms and changing weather conditions ?🤞

What's the point in the wipers if snow and rain don't interact with the windscreen. Footage cleverly moves to bonnet cam when changing from snow to rain. Dirt Rally 2.0 had great weather graphics

But no weather effects at other cameras than cockpit. I would expect a camera on the bonnet or bumper to get hit by even more rain droplets and dirt than on a windshield, but instead there barely happens anything. This should be improved imo too.

it looks amazing. only thing i’ll complain about is that the co-driver doesn’t seem as alive as Phil was in DR2.0. In that game you could hear him clearing his throat, his voice shaking when the ground is bumpy, etc. This one seems to be much flatter like the previous WRC ones.

Looking good! Would like to see some rough stages to see the detail of the road, that's one of the main reasons RBR is so good after all these years. You can feel the potholes and road imperfections very clearly. Sweden and Estonia being smooth surface rallies, you cant see that detail in this video.

Yep. It looks like strips of hot wheels track, like an arcade game and like past WRC entries. One of the best things that codemasters did with the dirt rally games was use 3d scans of real world roads, so it could utilize their texture, width, and obstacles encroaching onto the road. Looks to me like they've dropped that. The "dirt" stages may as well be slippery tarmac. Very disappointing.

So, the reason that isnt implemented in modern games is because of how unfriendly it is to casual players, or in other words, 95% of the audience. It may give a more nuanced driving experience but constantly hitting small divots in the surface and unsettling the car just because you havent played that specific route a bunch of times before in order to learn it, is not going to make the average player happy. There is a reason real sims often use subscription pricing.

I went back to Forza forizon rally stages after dirt rally 1.0 and I couldn't even enjoy offroading anymore! It does suck because the rally series was so good, I just don't wanna see it go away now that they've been bought. I know the handling wasn't textbook "sim" but it really gave it a good challenge with the crazy roads. Ah well.

And it doesn't look bad, just not stunningly gorgeous, which I can live with. I mean gameplay/handling wise it looks great. The stages also look aweseome and I'm happy there are a lot of stages DR2 came out with so few locations, was honestly a big bummer for me. I still won't preorder, because I just don't. Still, I'm hyped and happy a new Rally game comes out. I just really hope this game turnes out great and gets some attention towards rallying.

Would've liked to see the New "Hardcore" damage model in action, as well as the procedural surface degredation. Also I couldnt help but notice a few moments in the footage where the framerate tanked. Bit worried for VR and Tripple screen support if the game already struggles running on a single screen. Of course things ares subject to change and the build used for footage might be months old. Looking forward to see more!

I know the game is not released yet, but from the videos we have seen, I would like to share this "WISH LIST" for the next WRC. So Codemasters Team, you take into mind the comments from the players and you are already back to work 🙂 : - wheel shaking, vibration like DIRT 2.0 (it's too soft in the video) - shadows and ambient light in the cockpit (I hope this video is from a beta, it's completely flat) - effect of rain/snow on the windshield with water/wind physics - better sound (real life WRC engine is another level) - life and interaction with the crowd, like helping to put the car on track after an incident. This is a big part of the Rally Spirit. - At the end of the stages, allow the player to drive and stop the car like DIRT 2.0 (Why this automatic animation at the end) ? Keep up the good work Codies, I was waiting years for an officiel WRC from you ❤ I leave the microphone to others if they want to speak and add their wishes ;)

You can not look at that Rally Japan winter footage and say that looks right. 4:05 Where is all that grip coming from? Why are these micro slides still possible, where's the weight transfer? I don't like saying it, but I'm more worried about the game now than before they announced it. I was sure 4 years of development would do the trick.

Guys be aware, there is a false advertising of the game on the Steam page saying that the game is supporting triple monitors as it does NOT! For us sim racers with high end gear, this is truly a sad news. You can look at Karl Gosling video talking about it. Very frustrating.

Graphically, it doesn't look too bad, but the damn camera in the cockpit is a disaster... It's extremely stiff... There's not even the slightest shake, the camera doesn't move at all, which completely disturbs the speed effect... I don't require a Shaky camera, but some minimal ones. there could be vibration or camera movement. And my eternal problem with rally games is that the cars move on the track as if they were made of cardboard and slide as if children were playing with them. The raindrops on the hood are also made of stone because they do not smear on the hood at all. Edit.... And these great changeable weather conditions.... Will it be the same weather throughout the entire competition or will it change during the competition? And will it affect driving?
