Numbers recovering well. The Bald Eagle was delisted from the endangered status to "protected" meaning the population is large enough to recover and have healthy genetic diversity. There have been some great successes in conservation, many species are no longer endangered. Many are extinct too... some say if we let pandas go extinct and used the money to save species that... want to live, more could be done.

And in non natural way, all birds, who are raised with by humans, and never teached to fly. The first flight for every bird is stressful - because the bird is born with the instinct: never fall out of the nest. So birds who are raised by hand, and never get forced into flight, keep the instinct how the bird is born (never fall out of the nest). But the first birds i mentioned - because there is no possible way that they can fly, they keep all the good reasons to be afraid of heights. Summa summarum: there are a lot of birds, and a lot of reason for birds, to be afraid of heights. A lot of birds overcome the fear, and fly. Yes. But a lot keep the fear of heights.
