Exquisite to drive. Not a car you get in and sit down, but rather a car you put on. A true driver's cockpit. It seems to respond to thought, the most subtle touch on the steering wheel could change your line in a corner by an inch or two, even at double the speed limit without a cry from the tires. I know this because I've driven all of the different series of E- types and raced the '69 you see in my avatar. A very sweet and timeless beauty indeed. No traction control. No anti lock braking. Not even power steering. Just the essence of the the tires grip on the road under you and how good you are at reading that and getting the most from it. When they released the E-type in 1961 it wasn't as revolutionary as many people think. It was the result of and incorporation of all the lessons Jaguar had learned from dominating Le Mans racing throughout the late 50's with a proven extraordinary chassis under a new, very aerodynamic body. Yes the body style has a timeless beauty that has had certain aspects copied, but no one has ever matched it's beauty. The E-type remains to this day an icon for others to emulate.
@kevinparker79536 жыл бұрын
Edit: I had an old, comprehensive shop manual for E-Types that had a section for Le Mans racing modifications. That section was very small. Only a few pages. Basically if you wanted your stock E-Type to go from 150 mph to 170 mph on the Mulsanne straight you only needed to change the rear end gearing. The other modifications illustrated were cooling hoses to front and rear disk brakes and a timing change to the distributor spark advance curve. That's incredible in 1961 for a car that was only 265 HP.

Thank you for this just-right overview of Eagle, whose owners had the foresight to recognize that the E-Type's charisma would never be surpassed, and thus built a business around creating modern versions of the E-Type out of worn-out original chassis. Because many thousands of E-Types were built, Eagle will have no problem acquiring original cars whose certification can be carried forward, thus bypassing the smog and safety regulations that apply to all-new cars. I only hope that among the wealthy who can afford them, among their number are a few genuine motorheads who can appreciate, and drive, a genuine sports car. I was fortunate enough to own a Series 2 in the 1970s, and can assure this video's viewers that for a motorhead, owning an E-Type while in your twenties is as good as it gets.

@@davidnelson7149 That's very similar to the process Rob Dickenson uses with his Porsche Singer. They're all restored/re-imagined/whatever Porsches that are stripped and "recreated" with an existing VIN and registration. The label goes with the package. They are both REAL expensive and really worth it if you appreciate that sort of perfection and can afford it.

As a musician who saw Jimi Hendrix, I was accidentally sold a 1962 Jaguar XKE in 1971, and got right into it. From behind, I always said it looked too much like a polliwog, so I like this rear view better. The wider tires are nicer, but I like the hand-painted silver spokes better, and the hood bulge is too deep. The original grill opening was vertical, and this one has some overhang, more like a catfish mouth. Seeing the headlights covered still looks the best.

It's a lovely car, but surely it can't be a "convertible" if it doesn't convert. It's open-top only, as far as I can see. Also, is that the exhaust that's hanging so close the road? That's going to be expensive if it bottoms out.

How beautiful she is hit me at 4.18. One aspect I noted is how the bonnet serves as an engine cover rather than just design element or atleast did way back in the time of actual motor cars. The straight-six engine block and bonnet cover come together perfectly with the bulge and the vents.

It would definitely be a fun thought exercise. One day I hope to tour the factory in Malvern much respect for the authenticity and passion in your art!
