Love this content. No one else on KZbin (or anywhere else I can find) is going this in-depth to answer the questions many of us have. I’d like to see you do a video with the road and mountain flat-top chains. I’ve seen several people claim they couldn’t find a dimensional difference in real life. Thanks!

Great comparison! One small correction regarding to the available spindle lengths: There is an XX SL non wide crankset. To achieve the 55 mm chainline it utilizes a 0 mm offset chainring.

Now i just need to find the spacers that go between the frame and my bb. Crazy btw how much better the xx groupset is compared to my 'old' x01 eagle groupset. A quick note on chainlines and the need to go to 56.5-57 mm to accomodate wide tires: I have an old frame which was designed at a time when we only had 9 speed drivetrains with sub-50 mm chainline, but it still can take a 3.0 inch tyre. And if you do the math, a 49 mm chainline results in 8.4 mm clearance between a 12 speed chain and a 3.0 inch tyre (a little less when using lower gears).
@stefanheidrich7340
@stefanheidrich7340 Жыл бұрын
Many thanks for the information regarding chainline etc. Keep up your good work 👍 I don't run any SRAM cranks on my Eagle drivetrain, 'cause there's no offer for 172.5 mm cranks (as I use for Road and Gravel). So I went to the third party manufacturer Leonardi Racing who supports the DUB standard and both interfaces for the chainring (3-bolt and 8-bolt)! I don't get it, why SRAM is optimizing their drivetrains without any consideration of the crank lengths as that is usual by all parties in the Road sector. There's a need for 2.5mm steps, when efficiency through power transfer is proclaimed as one big thing. Several lengths in one crank could be achieved by inserts, similar to Look Three Lobe.

Using slx groupset. I like it more than the gx 12s I had. Not sure if it's a problem with adjustment, maybe I hit a deraileur or what (but the bike shop said they checked everything and can't find any issues), and yeah idk, I just had issues with gx somehow, it would shift fine and then on the 500th shift it would act up on the ride.

i don't get the backward-compatiblity-part :( on the SRAM website I found the following: "Eagle Transmission T-Type chainrings are compatible with Eagle chains, so they can be used on Eagle Drivetrains when mounted to an Eagle Transmission crankset. However, Non-T-Type Eagle Drivetrain chainrings are incompatible with Eagle Transmission T-Type chains." yet, the back of the chainring in your video at 5:28 shows "SRAM T-Type Chains only" - doesn't that contradict each other? i'd like to get a powermeter for my non-UDH MTB and i'm wondering if i could use the new XX SL Crankset for example... :(

@@LoveMTB Thanks for the reply! I'm so confused..... Everyone says that "all ttype transmission cranks are "dub wide" hence a 3mm offset chain ring will accomplish a 55mm chainline.. correct? Well I just measured my ttype transmission cranks that are labeled "dub SL" and they measure 11.4 cm in length, which based on your video is the same as the old "dub regular" cranks which I would think would accomplish a 52mm chainline with the 3mm offset ring. @@ChrisCorless The new cranks are 3mm longer on each side. It comes with a 3mm offset chainring. That combo is a 55mm chainline. So to get a 52mm chainline with these new cranks, I just need to bring the chainring inboard by another 3mm, so that’s what a 6mm offset chainring will accomplish.
