Something you forgot to mention about Kyle: He’s just like Clark. He’s a hero. Because even in a world with Superman, someone who can extinguish a fire in seconds with his ice breath, Kyle is there, running into the fire and putting his life on the line to save people. At first I thought that this was a horrendous mess of a idea since both the Arrowverse and Crisis on Infinite Earths was the last straw that broke the Camel's back, losing my trust permanently to the CW DC shows, however I'm glad I was wrong about this Series because my God Superman & Lois is a amazing series like Stargirl and Doom Patrol,I 100% love everything about it,the characters feels real and relatable, the story is well written, the strengths and weaknesses are balanced out with rules, the romance between Clark and Lois and Kyle and Lana made me feel happy and emotional, the villain is drastically intelligent and has good motivations with terrible actions, the risks are high,Jordan and Jonathan has some of the best arcs I ever seen in my life, the Family angle is heartwarming and wholesome, the sad moments makes you cry,and the most important thing of all even with some flaws I'm not going to lie,it has mind, heart, spirit, soul, imagination, and creativity that makes you feel alot of emotions that the CW DC shows and many modern entertainment garbage that we watch has failed to do,all in all great video G.I. Gio,you did a outstanding job with this and I hope and pray that you survived the insanity and monstrosity that comes to the Flash Season 7,I give you the best of luck now if you excuse me I must find a dimension that has alot of Speedsters so that they could beat the living hell out of me and later watch some good Movies,Cartoons,Games, and Animes so that I don't become insane all thank to Disney,WB,CW,Illumination Entertainment and many other corrupted companies of entertainment.

It took me 15 minutes into episode 1 for me to completely believe this Clark and Lois were a couple and in love. They have amazing chemistry together. Contrast that to something like the Snyderverse and I just cannot believe the relationship between Clark and Lois. They have no chemistry and the characters feel fake. What I love most about this show is they are doing something different with Superman. It isn't yet another origin and his first couple of years on the job. He has a family, he has connections, the public love him (unlike the Snyderverse where they hate him and suddenly love him out of nowhere when he dies). He is a real character and it is showing how Superman acts not only as a superhero, but as a husband and father.

One of the things that made this show a 10 in my books was Clark arguing FOR keeping kryptonite weapons as a backup. I LOVE THIS SHOW. I’m a Smallville fanatic, and always will be. But I have this as a slight notch above it. I was skeptical like everyone else, especially how Superman has been treated in the Arrowverse before this. But man, this show blew every expectation outta the water. Tyler Hoechlin is excellent. For me, he’s easily the second best Superman behind Christopher Reeves. His embodiment of Clark really shines through, and Bitsie Tulloch is phenomenal as Lois. Both are given moments that expand their character and one doesn’t overshadow the other in the writing. I thought the kids would be annoying (considering it’s a CW Show), but they were honestly the best parts of it. I loved the slow build of Jordan and Sarah’s relationship, as they didn’t just put them together. The Captain Luthor twist to John Henry Irons was amazing. My only complaint was how quickly the town turned on Kyle after the info about Edge came out, as it felt a little unrealistic that the town who was so gung-ho about Edge would turn on the guy who didn’t know his true intentions either, but that’s a small minor nitpick in the grand scheme of things. Long story short, the show is excellent. Excited for Season 2!

Honestly, Tyler Hoechlin really nailed both sides of the man of steel. It's the little things like pretending he can't carry heavy things on his own while in public or the geeky energy he has to his wholesome personality as superman telling a kid his mum made his costume. The whole cast just works so well together. I love that they didn't go the predictable route and have Kyle die in that fire towards the end or make him some ignorant hick or an a** but a fully developed and well meaning character. Here's hoping it doesn't get cancelled to quickly as I am really loving it.

I don't think that implanting a Kryptonian consciousness into a human gives that person Kryptonian powers. It's the x-kryptonite that allows one to absorb the solar energy needed to develop the powers that native Kryptonians have under a yellow sun. However, a regular human given a mega dose of x-kryptonite is too unstable, unless that person has already had low level exposure to it over a prolonged period of time.

@@ssjgodjones342 Only Clark and Tal-Rho (Morgan Edge) are true Kryptonians (the twins are half-Kryptonian). The rest are just humans who merely host Kryptonian minds. X-kryptonite gives humans the ability to absorb and convert energy from a yellow sun similar to what a native Kryptonian would be able to do. If you're asking how these newly-awakened Kryptonians would have knowledge of how to use these yellow sun super powers, that's a fair point. I think the short answer is it's a plot hole the writers have chosen to ignore as not really worth the time and effort to explain. An actual answer that's plausible might be that Tal-Rho and Leslie Larr were able to give a crash course about yellow sun powers to all the NewKryptonians(tm).

In regards to episode count, having 20 to 22 episodes in itself is not the problem but rather how the writers use it. For example, Agents of SHIELD's 4th season had similar episode counts to all of the Arrowverse shows, but instead of stretching out one long story and add in pointless filler, the show took the approach of breaking the season into three "pods" each about 8 episodes long as one pod set up the next pod and it built into the final conflict. This structure not only allowed stories to feel tight and actually matter, it cut out the need for fillers. Superman and Lois certainly benefitted from the lower episode count to allow them to focus on the story and trimming the fat, but I think if all the other Arrowverse shows took the Agents of SHIELD Season 4 approach, they would all be stronger shows.

Well, speaking of CW, *Stargirl* has also been a very good show for 2 seasons. The CW started out great, with some good seasons of *Arrow* (1,2&5 are the consensus top trio, but seasons 3 and 8 also have some very good episodes) , *The Flash* (S1&2 are really good, season 3 started to decline, and from there it's just shit) and *Legends of Tomorrow* (S2&3, and I'd argue that it's the only Arrowverse show that remained somewhat consistent during the CW dark age, thanks to Matt Ryan's portrayal of John Constantine; wish his own show got more than 1 season), etc etc Hell, even *Supergirl* managed to get a second wind at the end of season 4, thanks to Jon Cryer's fantastic portrayal of Lex Luthor, which is now my favorite live action Lex ever (OK, maybe a biiiit behind *Smallville* 's Lex, but it's close). I can't talk about *Black Lightning* as I didn't watch it, but from what I read/hear it's not a Batwoman-tiers shitshow. Can't believe I've watched most of season 2 *just* because Black Mask was the season's Big Bad >< Props to Peter Outerbridge for playing an awesome Roman Sionis, I just wish his portrayal wasn't wasted on that show. With *Titans* season 3 borrowing a lot of elements from "Batman: Under the Hood" (and it's adaptation, "Under the Red Hood"), I wish we could have had a couple more episodes with Jason in his Hood persona, taking over the Gotham City gangs and all, and have him clash with Sionis. Oh well, can't have them all; been praying for a somewhat accurate live action Roman for so long... *Bids of Prey* had potential as a good alternative prequel for him, but, well, you know...

"A contender for a definitive version of Superman." That is exactly how I feel about this version. I LOVE hopeful and even optimistic/idealistic stories. I enjoy corny and I like drama as well. I have a mixed relationship with this Superhero and the reason is kind of shallow. I was introduced to Superman through Justice League: Unlimited since they played a lot of reruns, so while Superman earned enough credit and respect from me on the show to accept him as a solid member of the iconic Justice League, but not as the 'best of us' or 'leader of the JL' or even the 'big gun'. I thought he was an arrogant, self-righteous jerk at times who thinks he is more important than he actually is. Mr. I get one-shotted every other episode. He just rubbed me the wrong way at times, but after I got older, I learned that there was a reason why he was like that. The Justice League was on a slippery slope, but I didn't have the original exposure to compare, but that is why I didn't pay Superman much attention growing up. Honestly, with my taste in stories and outlook on life, Superman should be my favorite hero ever. The guy even reminds of my Dad. I even grew into a casual fan of the Man of Steel, BvS, and Snydercut version of the character because of the core traits that were (even though they were muddled) displayed in them. So I dug a little into Superman lore through KZbin and enjoyed some of what I found, but I just don't enjoy the Superhero comic book medium. The art style is just a big turnoff to me. BUT I am immensely pleased to tell you, that after watching this show, I can FINALLY say, I have my very own *definitive* *Superman.* I will now base all comparisons to this version of Superman from this moment forward.

I know this is an old comment, but I felt compelled to say that I had actually a rather similar impression from JLU's take on Superman. The show was great, but just like with Batman they had this habit to make EVERYONE more jaded and cynical the further they go in their careers. TAS Superman in his own show initially was just as kind and nice as Reeves' or Hoechlin's take on him, but particularly the episodes with Darkseid seem to have broken something in him, turning him more bitter and guarded. This hurts particularly in JLU because the show had no room to have him relax and be Clark again, he was only ever Superman here, with all the responsibilities and challenges that come with it. I think we can be glad that the previous fad of evil Supermen expies has birthed a new wave of Superman shows that focus on him being a lovable dork, with his portrayal in Superman & Lois being a prime example. Note that the Timm-verse authors did the exact same thing with Batman. Just go watch the first Batman TAS episodes or Mask of the Phantasm and you'll be blown away how much this Batman CARES about his villains and how much of his mission consists of challenging people to be better. This same mission, his methods and that he never moves beyond his trauma however turn him into a bitter old recluse in Batman Beyond and JLU as the middle point of that development drive up his insecurities and avoidance of social interaction as flanderized quippy punchlines. Which is to be expected in a show with such a massive cast that can't give any single character too much spotlight, but I'd think the characters suffers from it when character changes because of trauma are turned into background noise that is actually there and intended, but never fully explored.

I enjoyed your video! As a new DC fan, I love Superman & Lois. I’ve already watched the series twice. 1. Clark & Lois are couple goals. They communicate effectively and don’t drag their sons into their marital issues. 2. The Kent family was well casted. They literally look like a real family. It’s wild how much Jordan and Alex favor each other. 3. Jonathan is my favorite Kent brother. His character portrayal reminds me of Chris Pine’s portrayal of James T. Kirk in the Star Trek reboot. 4. The townspeople were some flip floppers. How was Kyle and Lana supposed to know Edge was an alien trying to take over the town? 5. I love the way each parent acknowledges their children’s concerns. When Sarah asked Lana why did she always act like everything’s fine, Lana revealed she was taught to smile at your neighbor even when things were really bad. When Sarah said that’s not healthy, Lana paused and said “You’re probably right.” So often, parents gaslight their kids, minimize their feelings and justify their toxic patterns based off parental neglect/abuse they’ve experienced. 6. Sam and John make me laugh. However, I was confused when John thought Natalie was dead on his earth. Anywho I’m excited for Season 2!

I’m very confused about where Metropolis is now. The main issue is they play a football game against Smallville later in the season. That part of the schedule is for your intra-state teams or in-division teams. Is there any chance they did the Smallville TV Show thing and moved Metropolis to Kansas where it was roughly a three or four hour drive away?

The thing is technically Superman and Lois is 9in the Arrowverse and in The Flash they showed a map of the USA and it had Metropolis on the East coast. The only way to really fix that is to move Smallville out of Kansas or to retcon that map.

24:01, I could be very wrong with my prediction, but I’m thinking there is indeed a chance that since the possessed people survived falling from the sky after they were freed from their possession, they survived because they still possess their powers, but they have gone dormant in a similar way Jordan’s powers were until they started activating. Clark specifically talks about how at least some of his power, such as his strength, can be influenced by his mind or more specifically, his will or emotion (something I think also helped him save Jonathan given your assessment of the apparent distance Clark needed to travel to shield his son in time). 16:37, As Lara El suggests, they seem to still have powers, but ones that are fading or are at least dormant due to them being unpossessed. Something could happen to them, likely something extremely stressful, to reactivate their dormant powers. The nature of Tag’s exposure to X-Kryptonite seemed to be quickly chalked up to him being at the mines when Jordan blasted the bonfire. Something else may have happened there that has yet to be explained. Or I’m just putting up baseless arguments and defenses. Really I’m just waiting for what they could do with Season 2 and hoping the storytellers build on their successes and learn from any of their failings. Like you said, it’s not a perfect show, but it’s a step above what surrounds it at least as of now. 19:13, all this aside, my favorite highlight of this video in particular was the Russian Badger reference. That was unexpected, but quite welcome. Though, 20:49, was up there too.

I think crisis rearranged the universes and made passing between them harder, which the characters who were aware of what was happening interpret the events as everything collapsing in on each other, since a version of them ended up in the same universe. Thus making different universes still possible, it's even possible that their consciousness split so multiple universes have versions of them that were them before crisis.

This Superman is the best friend that Superman is to everyone. This is Batman’s greatest friend for those who don't believe Batman is capable of making friends. Batman is a dark character, but his heart is often melted by Clark's optimism. He's got an occasional sense of humor, he helps Clark be semi-realistic with his expectations, but he gives the Dark Knight hope. I remember reading the comic where Superman intentionally gives Batman Kryptonite to use against him for his JLA contingency plans and was just in awe at the level of trust between the two characters. Their relationship - since comics, has been perfectly adapted in the DCAU and this show does a spin on a similar concept. Like Superman: The Animated Series, JL, or JLU, S&L's Superman, is a friend. He's optimistic, caring, and he's sympathetic. If everything good about humanity was in a person: humility, hospitality, love, sympathy, empathy, honor, and courage, it's Superman. For the longest time, I never understood the Man of Steel. I thought he was simply an overpowered character without flaws, but I've learned over the years that he's flawed in a more unconventional manner: his humanity is his biggest strength, but a weakness continously exposed by his enemies. It isn't truly the Kryptonite, Magic, or the red sun, it's his humanity. While Captain America represents a lot of honorable traits and remains one of my favorite heroes, Spider-Man and especially Superman move me in a different way. I think it's their friendly approach. Cap can move a room, but I'd say Spider-Man and Superman are like you and I in totally different ways

First thing that needs to be said is that this video is great break down because with every point you made, there was example from the show. The other thing that made you video enjoyable is your criticism. It is fair and objective. This video essay must took a lot of time. So Congratulations on making a quaility video. I have to make the same confession about my concerns with the show but the premise of Superman being a father and superhero was something new to explore. I like the show because it didn’t have to preach to me but just entertain me. Here is one of the few CW shows that didn’t tackle the big social ills of the world but what average people go through on daily bases which is balancing a family life with a professional life. The show didn’t make Clark a “father knows best” type of dad or uncaring father. He was doing the best he could an adapted his approach and teaching as we can see when his sons found out about his super hearing on their conversations. I had commented on one of your previous Flash video and compare Clark and Lois to Barry and Iris. I have to agree with that I was concerned how Superman and Lois were used during their time on Supergirl and crossover event, Crisis. Clark and Lois’ relationship felt more about supporting each other in a real marriage. I could always see that Lois had to learn that she has to share her husband with the world. When she explains it to their boys, you can tell that she wants him home but knows he has a higher responsibility. It would be no different than a soldier, fire fighter or police officer. I like the fact that Jordan’s powers aren’t as consistent as Clark’s abilities. It allows us to see how he will mature with them. Will there be a cost for him to use them? Plus the fact that Jordan is insecure about himself and still has issues with his parents can lead to trust issues in future storylines. Jonathan is compelling character. Here is someone who has thought he was stronger than his brother and now he must balance physical weaknesses with his brotherly need to protect someone that really doesn’t need it. I like how the show make him the moral compass. It is like he has Clark’s inner hope in humanity while Jordan received the physical abilities. I really hope that season 2 can delivered the same quality and I am concerned with any crossover event or special guest from the other shows. I hope the CW can see that they have jewel in it being separate from the social agendas that are preached on the other Arrowverse shows.

I'd like to mention an underlooked member of the Kent family quickly. General Sam Lane. He was a great part of the series for me. He was like Superman. He always did what he thought was right for his family. He only saw to separate Superman's two lives, going as far to warn the kids against interfering with Superman's life, prioritizing the world over his family. Whilst Lois disagrees, Sam is rarely presented as the villain, but the opposite of Lois, choosing Superman over Clark Kent. It makes for a great arc for him to see his family placed in danger, only to realise where (and who) he should place his values with, leaving the DOD at the end of the season as a result. Whilst minor, hes still a great character.

Regarding the point brought up at roughly 28 minutes in- in the show Metropolis seems as though it'd be a lot closer to Smallville than is shown on the Flash map presented. After all, during the first few episodes before Lois quits the daily planet, they didn't make a big deal about how transport would work- I doubt she would expect Clark to ferry her to and from every day; it's much more reasonable that she would drive there herself. Likewise, General Lane is shown taking routine car trips to and from the DoD. In all likelihood, they retconned metropolis to be possibly even in the same state.

The inconsistency with the speed of heat vision is because that 1. Edge is not fully used to the non-ionizing radiation of a yellow sun, 2. This had already been said in previous comments but unlike popular belief HBO has nothing to do with the production of Superman and Lois. It’s all CW. The showrunner previously worked on the flash and it’s just remarkable that the writers feel like they actually care about a CW show. Most of the time it feels like the writers either don’t care or are so high on something they come up with the most stupid things imaginable or just hide behind common tropes to try and hide the bad writing.

i kinda like how long it takes other characters to charge the laser eyes, it makes sense for superman to have them instantly because he's been practicing with them for like 20 years. while the army of possessed kryptonians have never used laser eyes it takes them like a whole minute to charge up.

The biggest thing about this show is the quality it feels almost cinematic its so nice to look at it doesn't feel cheaply made like the other shows

As glad I am that the first season was better written than most CW series, this show honestly made me miss Smallville too much. I still haven’t finished watching the first season. I stopped watching after the Lara as Lana episode. Your review is great though, as always.

The Smallville tv show had Metropolis only three hours away from Smallville, so it was actually in Kansas. It was a lot easier to accomplish things that way.

there is its fair share of inconsistency's but overall its pretty good and most of them are rather small lets just hope it doesn't pull a flash and get worse over time

I was pleasantly surprised by this show, and I went in with very low expectations thanks to 3 previous horrid seasons of the Flash...until I realized the producers of the first 2 (or 3) GOOD seasons of The Flash produced Superman and Lois...which explains a lot. CW...DO NOT promote Eric Wallace and Caroline Dries to Superman and Lois! EVER!!!! As for Superman's speed inconsistency, I would chalk it up to Clark going into overdrive to save his son.

Out of all the CW shows this is definitely the best season that has came out in the past couple years

I don't know if this info will help, but about how the sound villain was able to sneak up on superman, well, he could have used his onw sound tech to neutralize the sound he was making while walking closer to superman, kind like stealth helicopters.

I think the point you raised about this show seeming like its set in an alternate universe from the rest of the CW shows may be what I like best about it. My theory is that its the original Earth Prime timeline created right after the Crisis on Infinite Earths before multiple time travelers on Flash and Legends of Tomorrow created a new set of alternate parallel timelines rather than simply writing over the same timeline as they may have thought they were doing. The original Superman television show only had one trip back in time to the stone age which is possibly the origin of the entire multiverse with each time traveler since creating a new alternate universe beginning from any point they traveled into the past altering historical continuity somehow,

Even in the original superman and Lois Lois is vital to the storylines most of the cases/criminals come through her coz she’s a journalist/investigator That’s why this show will always be a great show coz it’s not just about super-powered villains

It's fascinating how the best protagonist in the Arrowverse is arguably the single hardest superhero to write well.
