I'm no Eagles fan but I can understand why Simpson kept his answers brief. The club is in an awful place, largely of it's own making and he has a part in that, but it must be draining to face up to the media week after week when the team is putting out these performances with no real end in sight. Again, he has to share the blame for getting them there and it's his job to front up, but on a human level it cannot be easy to face up to this every week. I don't think he's disrespecting the journalist, I think he's just drained from a long season.

Simpson talks to the supporters each week on West Coast Eagles website. He then does several press conferences each week. He also appears on Channel 7 every Monday night for an interview. He has other media jobs during the week where he gives his message to the fan. Eagles have a high profile in Perth. If anything you hear too much from him.

As a Eagles supporter I am not surprised with the current performance especially after the Kelly trade, the recent flag from the Eagles was not done on pure talent, it was a very structured methodical team that over performed with their talent that played keepies off at a very high level, there was never a really a player in that side that grabbed the game by the neck and carried them, just a very well drilled team. Anyway I roll my eyes at all this talk of about what Eagles should do, Eagles for the most part are very well run and have been since their inception in the AFL, this is the cost of going for a flag and the cost of going for another especially with a side that never had big elite talent in the first place. Every time Eagles have rebuilt they have gotten a flag or close to it, nothing to be ashamed of like the media is carrying on.

C’mon mate. They had generational players in Josh Kennedy, Nic Nat, McGovern, and Hurn, plus some very handy players in Shuey, Yeo, and Gaff. Not to mention goal kickers and play makers in Rioli and Ryan. They had more talent than any other club - period. Should have won another one or two flags, but as usual didn’t capitalize.

I remain my opinion, I felt much more comfortable with the 2006 team than the 2018 team, as I said before they're structure and how well drilled they were playing keepies off carried them, however from a talent point of view for a grand final side not the greatest, Collingwood imo had a better side just not as a well coached. Tom Barras will only go if he ends up being the highest paid defender in the game. Eagles would pay for most his salary and Sydney would give Eagles extra bonus draft picks to get it done. They need the trade more than the Eagles do. Win win. But I can;t see it happening. He is a Perth boy with young family in arguably the best city to live and play footy in Australia. I hope no one gets offended, but to go to Sydney would really have to be special, like a 6 year deal on massive salary. Even then, it would be hard to get him to leave Perth.

We are realistic that we know that we've had a pretty rough run with injuries we've had 23 players to pick from for about two years and yes you could probably criticise to fitness staff and some of the players, but overall we rebuild really well and we play in a grand final every six years. As a Bulldogs fan i wish we did a cleanout/footballing review because the people in power at the club are a disgrace and simply don't care about the on field success of the club. We have one of the most talented lists and yet cant get higher than 6th or 7th and are out of the finals in the 1st week. Our president has been in the job for a few years and not once have we heard anything from her about the expectations or direction the club will be going in or what they're actually planning on doing at the club or even reacting to a poor performing season like last season (and doing something about it). you can add in the CEO and the rest of the board members into this mess. So I applaud West Coast for showing ambition and actually having the guts to do something to change there current position as a club despite them only being down the bottom for a few years, because I know my club wouldn't, i wish my club had a damn backbone and not be spineless clowns who care about themselves and the power of their job positions.

Ease up and smell the roses a bit, Dogs are in one of their great eras. Would have gone top 4 in 21 except for Bruce's ACL and still probably don't beat Dees. Two GFs and one flag in eight years I'll take that any day in a 18 team comp. Most had us 5-8 this year so barring disaster long term injuries should be able to make a top 4 run next year assuming good off-season gym work for Darcy, Jamarra, Busslinger, Jones, Gallagher and 1 or 2 fringe players to find an extra gear. It's very easy to overvalue your list.

In the last 8 years we have been to 2 GFs but in one of them we got completely embarrassed and just gave up in the last quarter which was simply unacceptable. Not everyone had predicted us to be the 5-8 range some had us missing finals, the thing is after 8 years I would expect some improvement and there should be no reason why we shouldn't make top 4 once. I don't think our list is perfect but it should be good enough to compete and finish top 4 at the very least, especially if you consider players like bont, macrae, libba and Daniel are all in their prime and we are just wasting their time and career by getting knocked out in the 1st final after scraping into 7th or 8th position. But we need to look at the bigger picture as a whole and ask ourselves as bulldogs fans is winning 2 flags in almost 100 years good enough? The answer to that is no. We should want and demand better than that.

As a Geelong supporter i have followed Tim Kelly with interest. Played great with the cats but he performed on his own terms. He busted a gut with us knowing WC were interested. And WC paid way over the odds. He has now gone back into his comfort zone, one of the original reasons WC or Freo never signed him in the first place. Recruiters need to be more viligant.

Eagles pay a dividend to WAFC each year to pay for WA junior footy development. So it's not a matter of paying extra tax to the AFL. $6m to pay out Simpson and the AFL soft cap tax. The WAFC wouldn't allow it. AFL basically give barely anything to junior footy development in WA, so it would be a bitter pill for the WAFC to miss out on a dividend and see it getting paid to the AFL via soft cap tax. Then the WAFC then still needs to fund WA junior footy.

The only decent replacement for Simpson would be Cox from the Swans as he is ex an Eagle legend, has a great footy brain and most importantly has been learning from one of the best in the business for years . What about Don Pyke and Dean Cox. They're both at Sydney working with Longmire. Cox is an ex Eagle and Pikes coached before. I reckon they'd be a good start. Getting rid of Nisbett makes no sense. The CEO has led the WCE organisation to become one of the richest clubs in the comp, with a 100K members and a waiting list. Nah that was over 10 years ago. Got the spoon in 2010 (I'm pretty sure) then finished top 4 the next season. Half the senior players were out injured in 2010, which meant the side came good in 2011 when they were all fit and playing.

At the Eagles the instruction had been to be careful, so that's why they got upset at Nelson and co.

The injury crisis for the last 2 years has been a blessing in disguise, as its fast tracked rebuild, with early draft picks in end of year and midseason drafts. Guys have got games that don't deserve it. Builds experience and helps club make a tough call on guys not performing. It is what it is. But since 2021 draft the club has been on track with single vision. Next two years will be tougher.
