Many years ago I discovered this video. It made me decide to start learning the low whistle and eventually buy an MK whistle. Since then, I've played along many times with this video. I still find it as stunningly beautiful as the first time I've heard it, and I still come back a lot of times to listen to it. Thank you!

This for me ranks among the top low whistle recordings available on KZbin . It’s a beautifully sad old air anyway but your use of breath control which is phenomenal combined with the way you bend out some of those notes gives this recording such a haunting and beautifully evocative quality . I’d love to hear your interpretations of some other Irish slow airs but I can only seem to find you doing Native American flute music?
@medit8b13 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words! Unfortunately I don’t play much whistle these days due to chronic tendinitis. Native flute doesn’t seem to bother it as much as the whistles do. That said I hope to record a few more whistle pieces for my eventual album release. Thanks again for listening!

This track is such a favourite of mine among the plethora of material on KZbin. It has such soulfulness Kevin, but you know that. First class, sir, and an inspiration to this old aussie in the tropics. I wish you could/would post more of these. Best wishes with your health and happiness.

Beautifully performed. Thanks for sharing. The photos are great too. The photo of the "bog body" which I think is probably a statue reminded me of a research paper I did way back in high school about the bog people of Ireland.
Love the photos & the pipe playing was stirring my soul for an early morning stroll along the coast. A very nice work of art you’ve created.

The hardest thing about playing the tin whistle is breath control. I’m learning, and it’s been fun, but holy cow it’s so hard to not run out of breath every three seconds lol

You gotta master nose to mouth breathing, it helps a lot.

I happened upon Low Whistle by odd chance after years of being a vocalist. Playing low whistle is like breathing song into an otherwise soundless piece of pipe. It is an external larynx.
@jimaman76464 ай бұрын
As wind instrument players, we all umderatand that playing every note is almost impossible. On the whistle specifically, look for a quarter (or longer) note at the end of a phrase and cut it short. Use the gained time to take the breath. Maybe forgo an ornament in favor of a breath. Often, within a phrase, a note (the 2nd is a likely candidate often) can be dropped without losing the flow or the rhythm. It is defi itely a skill to be mastered, but you will get it through experience and trial-and-error.

Amazing performance! I'm actually curious how is the vibrato done, by hand or with your breath?
@medit8b1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you, while vibrato is traditionally done using the fingers on low whistle, I used breath on this one as it gave me more nuanced control.
