If there is a substantial amount of buildup and you use a q-tip to clean your ears, then you could push it into the ear canal. But if you clean them regularly, they stay clean. For reference, my wife is a physician who sees this type of blockage often in her patients and she recommends keeping them clean once the ear canal is cleared out. I’ll take her advice since she’s the smart one in the family.
