A lot of melodic death metal bands influenced a lot of metalcore bands. I remember that Tim Lambesis said one time that As i Lay Dying was heavy influenced by early In Flames. It's not a big coincidence, tbh.

That's because Unholy Confessions' main riff is one of the most generic and unoriginal riffs ever written. It's like if you told a guitarist who has never played metal before to listen to melodic death metal for 20 minutes and then write a melodic death metal riff on the spot. That's how generic Unholy Confessions is.
