Big pockets or not. This is when pool was real pool. The 90 's was the end of an era. Yet the beginning of a new one. The era we know now. I'm not knocking pool today, I just really appreciate 90s 9 ball even more than I ever have. Great match tonight!

You had an ocean of iconic shooters. Pros that really had personality and pizazz. I love the pros today, but most of their personalities and approach of the game are sterile. Most of those guys took up commentating when they were knocked out of the tournament. Danny and Bill’s commenting dynamic is fun. Bill and Grady’s banter is fun. And the stories they tell in down moments are worthy of an entire video series within themselves. Then you have guys like Buddy Hall, Nick Varner, Jim Rempe, Jimmy Mataya, and others that regularly commentated and added great insight to the game and match while still being entertaining. The large tournaments had class to them. A level of class unseen since until Matchroom really doubled down on their involvement. Even then, tournaments from this time had a stylish level of class that flows smoothly, whereas Matchroom’s environment comes off as slightly forced and empty. Another worthy note is that they primarily played on Brunswick Gold Crowns. Rasson, Predator, and Diamond tables (in that order) don’t stack up to the class of a Gold Crown. All of this is subjective, but it’s why I watch classic ACCUSTATS videos at a 2:1-3:1 ratio to modern day matches.
@jacobjones67639 ай бұрын
The most personality we get these days is Jayson Shaw jumping on the table and letting out a troll’s roar; maybe talking some shit, Filler doing some f**kboy hip thrust, SVB letting out a Hellen Keller roar, or Alcaide and FSR looking at each other lustfully after a good win. It’s just not the same as it was. lol

Pool today is just so boring to watch! It's so incredibly boring... and this is coming from someone who plays pool nearly everyday and owned a 9ft Goldcrown II! I love the sport, but they have to make it more exciting to watch if we ever want it to grow in popularity

What made pool before the 2000s great, was the fearlessness, the confidence to shoot shots that make the crowd happy, not just a long hard shot but doing things on a table you dont see often, like the early days of correy deuel he would shoot shots NOBODY else would, now adays the money just isnt there and everyone plays scared and conservative. Before the game was a spectator sport now the players could care less about the fans they just wanna win

The players from the old days were capable of that because there was something they had to do and there were no modern jump cues As far as players being able to jump the length of the table with their playing cue. I've seen John Shuput do that with no problem at all.
