(laughs) (Seo gestures for a handshake) Seo: (unintelligible) Earl: (grunts) I've had covid too many times! (laughs) (Earl walks off) Ref: You played really well, thank you. Seo: Thank you. Ref: Don't take it personally. Seo: Okay. I'm mostly on Seo's side here because I know that situation could feel very disheartening, but I also understand Earl being upset at himself, valuing personal space a lot, and not wanting to hug someone. What I do dislike is him bringing up luck, sneakily suggesting her success against him was a matter of luck with a backhanded compliment like "you're luckier than me" while tearing himself down with "I'm bad luck." Shameful to do that to a young admirer of yours.

Fact is this. She was luckier than him. Did you not see the break? Earl didn't catch a break. She did. That can be a difference. She played exceptional. Early on, snookering him like that? Tripped him up. Downhill from there.

So that shows that despite his bad luck in breaks like happened to Earl here, Efren made up for it with his mastery.

If he was concerned about hugging her because of COVID, he could have at least turned toward her when they were at a safe distance, given her a warm smile, and said he owed her a hug next time. Something like that. The way he went about it was just surly and unbecoming a seasoned pro who has received at least as much from pool as he has given. She played a clean game and was a gracious opponent, and that deserves respect regardless of who the other player is.

Earl Strickland is an absolute disgrace to pool even in his heyday. He was a terrible player. Win or lose, Earl is (was) a legend for many players. This girl is very young and probably super excited to play and beat earl. It might've been the highlight of her career so far and Earl just doesn't understand he is now just a fan attraction in these tournaments. I wish he could try to win people's heart. Damn, that girl would've cherished a hug from the Pearl until the day she died. She probably grew up watching every Strickland match she could get her hands on over and over. He missed a golden opportunity to show her and the world his human side, which he hides well for some odd reason, but I have no doubt is there. There are many videos and witness accounts that support that. During Efren's farewell tour, he was especially gracious when he said that Efren was the best. Even though he said that, fact is there was very very little daylight between him and Efren. A lot of people believe Earl has an overall winning record over Efren (I've looked for stats but could not find any, I'll bet Earl knows.....)
