This vintage Frontierland Disneyland home movie is from 1958 and shows some great early footage and LOTS of 1950s cars in different scenes, and street signs in the Hollywood vicinity. Some of the "street scenes" show old storefronts like J.C. Penney, Bontons, Anita, Salley Shops, and others.
Fun family vacation footage! This family obviously had a wonderful vacation, and since Disneyland wasn't opened until 1955, this is fairly early. One attraction shown in the film is an aerial tram and we can't find mention of this in today's Disneyland site, so we don't know if this is still there.
Some attractions that appear to still be there include the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Mark Twain Riverboat, a "Jungle Cruise," the Disneyland Santa Fe railroad ride, and some type of "Huck Finn" raft.
The family also filmed hanging out at the pool, riding down the highway with the camera running showing great cars, the roadside, some cool signs like Vine Street, Hollywood Blvd, Sunset Blvd and more - there is a split-second flash of a sign showing the Ella Fitzgerald was performing at on Saturday, August 16th. We wish they had been able to film that performance! Now THAT would have been a find! You can see the 48 star US Flag flying at some civic center or amphitheater.
As you know from watching our other videos, we love old home movies and the nostalgia associated with the scenes and styles of by-gone days.
The music in this video is again from the KZbin royalty free library - and the tunes are, in order of appearance:
All the Fixings, by Zachariah Hickman
Ponte de Abril, by Steve Adams
Sailing, by Delicate Steve
Moonrise, by Reed Mathis
Seasons, by Delicate Steve
Hulu Ukulele, by Chris Hausen

I grew up in Garden Grove, CA which is a neighboring city of Anaheim, in the 1960’s. The stucco homes, the outdoor shopping areas, early Disneyland, were all exactly as I remember them.

We wonder what that whole area must look like now! Thanks for visiting, Dee! We have more of these films that we're digitizing when we have time.

We're enjoying finding these old films - some of them are pretty dull, but it's great when we find ones that show something with some historical interest.
