Amazing how many people, in this day and age of quick fixes, are willing to get dirt under their nails to do something like this. I'm impressed. Never judge a book by its cover.

The colors for the first house are a crime, but nice projects. I Love these kind of houses.
@AntiqueFarmHouses3 жыл бұрын
The color yellow of the first house is historically correct to the second period. Let me explain which is interesting. Circa 1850's when they added the Greek Revival porch to this Federal Farmhouse they redid the clapboard so there is no telling what the first period color was but most likely white. The Green trim is the correct color of the Federal period to the house as that was not replaced. So in deciding what color to paint the body of the house took some detective work. There where two areas in the house that revealed Clapboard that was first surface to the second clapboard which was done in the Greek Revival period. That clapboard had that exact yellow color which I had computerized to match exactly and I still have that example of clapboard w/ that yellow on it - so its kinda like ironclad proof. Also the color yellow is also a common color for Greek Revival period. Another very interesting proof of the color is the sister house up the road which was in the same family - and guess what the cupboards inside that where from that same period are painted that exact yellow - and I bought one of the cupboards with that yellow from them to have in my house. I hope you like that explanation as that is the evolution of the paint history.

@@AntiqueFarmHouses That is so cool! You are a true history preservationist. Even down to the paint color! One would not expect an old house like that to have those bright colors, but that’s because all those photos from back then are in black and white. I think those colors are just splendid. Edit: I’m further in the video and thought I recognized the scene, not sure why. Then you said those were the adirondack mtns, and I checked the description to find out this farm was in Essex. I used to drive by this house and wish for it to be fixed up before it completely fell down. I haven’t been there in about 10 years , but now I will have to drive out and see it all finished. It’s been 7 years since y’all started on it but i’m sure it’s still beautiful. Cheers!

I am so excited to find this. I’m hoping to start on an old family 1935 farmhouse that’s been empty for about 50 years. Nobody thinks it can be saved but I feel differently. Great work!

Love this !! I live in eastern Canada. We own a mid 1800s farmhouse plank walls from the bottom.to the second story high . We renovated the whole house , opened up all the walls inside , had to put lots of jack posts in the old basement too , it was alot of hard work but we had an amazing relative carpenter who took on the challenge like a piece of cake when others turned their nose at it ... so happy with the results and we still get to enjoy this old home 🏡
