Everything looks good! I need to get a palmetto at those sizes, I just have seedlings from when I flung around a seed stalk 5 years ago in my planter, and they only grow a few fronds every year since they’re in deep shade then get buried by leaves and repeat. Your garden probably loving the recent heat!

Nice! I need to get some decent sized palmettos. I have a bunch of seedlings from like 5 years ago when I brought a whole seed stalk back from the beach but they’re in deep shade and just grow a few fronds then get buried by leaves every fall and repeat haha. Your gardens looking good!

Were you able to go to a location fairly nearby to dig up the Sabal Palm to bring back home ? This is the one palm that is never advertised for sale online in a pot with a trunk (just leaflets mailed to the buyer) even though this is the most common trunking palm native to the Southeastern USA. I guess it's because it's difficult to grow commercially from a seed in a pot and too slow growing to get it to a trunk where it might be offered online as a sale.

I dug up two small Sabal, both without a trunk, however if your lucky, you can find 7-15 gallon size Sabal at some nurseries in the Carolinas Va beach and southward where there commonly grown. There’s no shortage of big Sabal though, you can find those anywhere from Southeast Va to Florida.

I also know that you can find some online, but very few. Besides that their expensive. I also had a really difficult time finding Sabal at any nursery nearby.

@@virginiapalms436 I had bought a Sabal Palm in the Florida Keys about the late 1990's from a Nursery there and it was more or less a leaflet in a pot. I had it for about 10 years in a pot indoors and it grew fronds but no visible trunk. I didn't know anything about zone pushing back then and with young children the palm was cared for very well (sometimes some soda got poured in the pot) and it unfortunately died so never had the chance to plant it outdoors and then protect it in the winter when it was still green and healthy. At the beginning of this year bought a leaflet from Florida and have that planted now with the other's (Sabal Minor, Windmill, Needle and Saw Palmetto). they are all doing well and all are green but incredibly slow growing. I just impulsively ordered a Mexican Fan Palm that is 4 years old with a decent trunk and fronds and will be planting that and keeping warm in the winter with Xmas lights and portable/mini green houses (Mexican Fan Palm, Sabal Palm, and Saw Palmetto). The Needle Palm and the Sabal Minor are planted in good locations along south wall of house and will only be using a Planket (Needle) and Frost Cloth (Minor) during the winter. Live in 6A near 6B.
