I quite like the tamasaba, I suppose because I am a lover of fancy goldfish, although am now reluctant to ever buy them because of their swim bladder issues. What I can't understand is why koi keepers like tamasaba, when they love koi for the reasons they do, the tamasaba is so different. Can you tell me what it is about them from your own point of view

Tamasaba are much more robust than other fancy goldfish, much more like common goldfish infact. They have pattern and pigmentation like Kohaku and amazing characters.

I've never understood why we've bred deformed goldfish, moors, bubble eyes, lion head etc . I love my fish, but breeding cartoon characters from the humble goldfish has always made me feel sorry for these animals - just my opinion.

I guess it’s a challenge, a bit like breeding unnaturally coloured carp.

They're highly technical and fascinating. As with most Coldwater fish they've all started with mutations.
