The fight scenes were horrible in the 2021 movie. All the fight scenes were choppy, with no direction, and poor editing. The 1st fight and the last fight were the only good fights in that movie.

The structure and characters that the lore was based on was just like the game for the most part.

I was always stunned that the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie turned out the way it did. These people had modern effects, a decent budget, and good enough staff to make it work. This weird habit of sidelining Liu Kang is always my dead giveaway for when a piece of Mortal Kombat media is steering in an odd direction. The animated movies had better results than the 2021 film but still felt weird. I dont get why the 2021 movie wasn't just the plot of the first game. You easily have a solid trilogy of movies if you just follow the material. First film is Shang Tsung's tournament, second film is Shao Kahn's tournament, third film is Shao Kahn's invasion. Its simple as that. The 2021 film tries to tie it down by giving us a lackluster original character to be the everyman that we are supposed to relate to, doesn't genuinely commit to the fantasy aspect by doing that whole "Arcana" thing rather than just letting the characters be the way we know them, and cant do a tournament like the games did. Its stupid and such a mismanaged opportunity. I know Mortal Kombat: Annihilation is bad but its funny and nostalgic enough that I've seen that more than once. I can't say the same for the 2021 movie. It had no excuse to be as bad as it is.
