Thank you for posting this! I'm 32 weeks with my second baby and I am so excited to learn about EC and give it a try, I have just recently learned about the concept as a whole. I'm definitely doing EC if I ever have a child! I worked at a Daycare for 3 1/2 years and the amount of diapers I've had to change is enough for me to want to start potting training my own child since day one.

First of all your not a crazy mum, you just know what makes your baby happy and following that makes life a lot easier! I hadn't really heard about Elimination Communication much here in the UK until watching this video, I'm currently 19 weeks pregnant and would definitely consider this with our baby! I think it's lovely to see what other parents do in different ways, life would be a bit boring if we were all the same! Ignore the negative comments, your doing amazingly- you both are! 😊

This is GREAT! Thank you. Hey just FYI, when you say 'assimilate,' what you are meaning to say is the term 'associate' - just something for you to know for your future videos. Anytime I misuse a word, I want to know, so I figured I'd tell you.
@ariannapflederer8 жыл бұрын
+airutub3r thanks. This is a rare case that both words are actually correct. Assimilate means to take in information and understand. The "sssss" sounds helps them to understand when and where to go on the potty. So although associate also is correct, assimilate does still work when used in this context 😉

I was really only interested in EC because it uses less water than constantly changing cloth diapers, plus it's very complimentary to a dry toilet set up (which I will want once I start living in a tiny house). But after taking a human development course and relearning about secure attachments in infancy, communicating with babies plays a huge role in their ability to trust you, which makes EC all the more great. I'm wondering if this concept could be implemented in other interactions with your baby, like a noise or gesture for when it's time to eat, snuggle or play. Any ideas?

My foster daughter was 18 months when she came to me and I immediately started potty training her. The daycare told me that she wouldn't be potty trained until she was 3. I don't accept that. She will be 2 in April and I plan to have her potty trained by then.

Idk if I will have the patience & sanity to do this with #2 (bc #1 is already 16.5 months and starting potty training), but good video and I'll "try". I lived in China for almost a year to teach English. I actually thought it was gross and weird seeing all the babies with slitted pants. And I can guarantee you some babies/toddlers are better at it than others. Much like u know ur child better than anyone else, so if u know u have a very "strong willed" child that will fight this it's perfectly OK to save ur own sanity and skip this style of parenting. It's not one size fits all. My daughter is still a very moldable, well behaved toddler for what she is. That's why we're open to potty training her at 16 or 15 months. We're not forcing her. Bottom line just do what works for ur child bc it baffles me that so many moms seem to comment hostilely about EC or potty training early... Like whatever another mom is trying is not hurting u or ur kid (or their kid for that matter). Relax and just move on!

Arianna Pflederer I have a 5 almost 6 month old. I recently heard about EC and it is something I definitely want to do with my little one. The only thing is he doesn't really signal when he has to go pee or poop. These past two days i have rushesd him to his potty once i see he makes his funny pooping face and by the time i get there he has already soiled his diaper.. So basically he just finishes the rest in the potty and pees. That has only been in the mornings for the rest of the day im totally lost... I dont really have direction in this and no one i know practices EC nor do they support it. If you can give me a little tip pr advice i would forever be grateful. Thank you much and god bless you precious babies.

Hello! I just wanted to start this off by saying I absolutely love your Chanel!! I recently had a baby boy and I just had a couple of questions because me and my husband have been talking about how we really want to parent our kid.Do you recommend doing elimination communication? Why or why not? I really hope you can respond to this! Thank you!
@ariannapflederer9 жыл бұрын
I recommend it if you have time and research it thoroughly and do it properly. You can not be lazy with this type of potty training or your child can end up constipated or with bladder infections. They aren't old enough to take themselves, so you need to take them. If you're a really busy mom and/or aren't a stay at home mom I would not recommend it :)

Now that your daughter is past 2, is she fully potty trained because of this? Are you doing this with your new baby?
@ariannapflederer7 жыл бұрын
+Amanda S she has been graduated since 18 months. Yes, we are doing EC with our youngest. She is 16 months now and though we weren't nearly as consistent with her as we were with Rev (just due to the craziness of two kids) she still asks to get on the potty even at this age. I think she will be ready around 18 months as well. But, one thing I have learned since this video is that EC really is not about getting your child out of diapers as fast as possible. It's just about giving your child the opportunity to use the bathroom and have independence and control over that part of their world right from the beginning. Because of the communication it is common that EC kids potty train early, but it isn't and shouldn't be the sole reason and it isn't every case :-)
@amandas78677 жыл бұрын
This is wonderful. I've never heard of this before finding your channel. Thank you for sharing your experience. My 3rd baby is 3 months now and it just seems to make sense to teach them EC rather than tell them to just go in their diaper and then 2 years later give them a completely different message. I'm definitely considering this for him. I really like the communication peice to it, as its just another way of teaching them early how important communication is. Thank you again!

Is it too late to start this with a 3 month old who doesn't usually pee when his diaper is removed anymore?
@ariannapflederer9 жыл бұрын
I would suggest picking up the diaper free baby book. If you can learn your babies cues before he pees or poos, it isn't too late. Many moms have started EC later, and been successful. It's just a little extra work! 😊

Hi! I was wondering if you will be making an EC update soon? I read in some comments that you can do EC wrong and unsafe? How would that happen?
@ariannapflederer9 жыл бұрын
Because I always include small updates in her monthly updates, I don't plan to do a separate EC update until she's a year. That will allow the best round about experience and update on it. From ages 6+ months until their walking, not a ton changes. So there aren't huge updates really. I can definitely talk about some unsafe practices of EC when I do that though! :)

Wish I would have known about this when my kids were baby's! My kiddos never peed when you took the diaper off but as soon as you put it on them they usually did! Lol my son only peed on me once.... He was about 2 weeks old right after his bellybutton thing fell off and his Lil pee pee ring thing and I gave him his first real bath and I layed him in his bassinet changing table and had my hand on his belly as I turned to grab his diaper and my side was suddenly wet....at first didn't realize what was going on since I had a wet towel on my arm I turned towards him and my front side was being hit by a stream of pee...Lol he never did it again nor did my girls ever pee on me! My son was regular on going number 2....every night (still) at 2am!!!! My girls are still random times as they were as baby's....but I could always guarantee a min of 2x daily for them! My kids always did the pull the legs to chest or squat down when they needed to go number 2

I'm curious to know your intentions of EC. Do you think it's harder to potty train for the first year of her life versus just a little bit of time when she's 2? Did you choose to do EC for cost reasons (less diapers) or for fear she wouldn't potty train well later in life?
@ariannapflederer9 жыл бұрын
Definitely not the second, that is never a reason that anyone starts EC. Is it more work starting from the beginning? Yes of course! I also didn't do it for costs, although that is a huge perk :) I did it because babies don't actually want to eliminate themselves. She has proved all my research and reading on that to be true, with how she has responded to it. Although it is more work (to some extent), it's only more work physically. It's uch less work emotionally than potty training a toddler (for both the toddler and the parent haha). But, at the same time it depends on how you define work. I will have to "work" with her for about a year, until she can walk and take herself. Or I could do traditional and change diapers for 2-3 years. That (to me at least) sounds like way more work. Haha. My only reason for doing EC though was purely for my daughter, the other stuff is just a perk :)

You can obviously do whatever you want in this area because I don’t believe EC is harmful to a baby but there is a difference between EC and teaching a toddler to use the potty. EC is basically the Pavlov’s dog experiment. Make an auditory or visual cue and your baby responds in a way that parent prefers. It’s conditioning not teaching. A parent that’s respectful of their child follows the child’s cues. The parent introduces the toilet and the child shows interest so we parents begins to teach them how they can use the potty and avoid having a wet diaper. For toddlers that are ready for this step it usually takes a couple days to learn because they’re internally motivated whereas EC takes months up to a year and sometimes then doesn’t even work because they’re not ready for that step. Also babies may not prefer being wet but they can’t control their bladder to wait until you take a diaper off so that idea is ridiculous. When they need to pee they pee whether there’s a diaper or not. The reason why they pee so frequently when you take a diaper off is because there’s a shock of cold that causes muscles to tense and relax which equals peeing sometimes. I agree with you that every child is a unique individual and there are a lot of parenting styles and opinions but that doesn't mean all of them are equal. As an example breastfeeding is better than formula. People that formula feed may have legitimate reasons to do so but that doesn't change the science that makes breastfeeding better. Feeding your baby formula isn't the best option for your baby but it may be the only option you can do and i get that. With that said, mothers that continually do whatever they want under the pretense of let's just all get along and do what we want without doing whats actually, scientifically proven to be best for our babies aren't doing themselves, their kids, or others any favors. End rant.
@ariannapflederer9 жыл бұрын
Maggie Lacy Not only have you disrespected me by insinuating that I disrespect my child, you have completely missed the point of the video. I can gather from your response that you not only didn't listen to what I said, but have preconceived notions about a topic that you most likely have never tried or really researched yourself. I can see why if you only listened to a few things and not the video as a whole, that you would think that it was like, Pavlov's dog experiment. Where you have your information wrong is that you believe a child at this age can not control their bladder yet. They can not control it like an adult, or even a 2 year old - but, they can control it and they can hold it. I mentioned clearly in the video that Revelynne only pee's when she is sleeping, unless I ignore her fussing when awake. If she had no control and it was truly just "conditioning" she wouldn't fuss for several minutes before peeing - she would just pee and be done with it. You have a right to bring up your children however you so choose, and I have no problem with parents choosing to do traditional potty training. But, it is out of line to suggest that I do not respect my child because I choose not to make her eliminate herself and/or sit in urine and feces. Next comment like so will find you immediately blocked. Have a nice day.
@shelbybuono16749 жыл бұрын
Maggie you're utterly ridiculous and obviously didn't watch the video thoroughly and or have no open mind. It's Ariannas child not yours. So what if Revelynne doesn't want her butt wet and she would rather use a toilet than a diaper? I think it's cool and eye opening. Cannot wait to experiment with this method when I become a mother. Arianna keep doing what your doing, we the real pflederer Pham love you. Block out the haters girl. 😎 Love you guys!

Personal opinion but I honestly think this is very werid you baby is a baby therefore it pees and poops in a nappy its not ready to be potty training till about 1 or 2 .. Very werid how your already trying to get her out of changing nappys .. I just think she's really too young to for you to potty train its really werid buy that's my opinion ..
@ariannapflederer9 жыл бұрын
Courtney McMillan I do need to ask if you watched the entire video? From your comment, I would say no. But, Revelynne waits to pee already and smiles her head off almost every time she does with a diaper off - that is far from being too young to potty train if she chooses to hold it on her own terms. I can't really make her do anything at this age. So she obviously has a want to wait and has a want to pee with a diaper off. Just trust that I know what is best for my child, and I will trust that you know the same :) Thanks for watching!
@courtneyjade74979 жыл бұрын
Arianna Pflederer I did watch it all by no means was i hating towards I just commented my opinion .. Obviously its everyone personal preference yours is to ec and mine isn't that's cool good luck with learning her ec when pooping nd hope all goes well x
@heleneolsenthunem3079 жыл бұрын
Courtney McMillan I understand how you can feel it's weird, it is unusual and I think that's why it's easy to think that. Cloth diapers are also something that would be a bit frowned upon too, but that's because it's not the most common to do. I personally don't see the difference between having your child potty train earlier. If you think about it, what you "normally" do is to tell your child: "here, pee in this diaper!" and then when they are 3 you teach them to do the opposite? I've heard many people use EC saying that when their kids approach the age to get rid of the diaper, and it's so much easier for them because they have been doing this. It's about having respect and learning about your kid and try to understand them.
