Early Season Trout Fishing - River Usk Fly Fishing

Andy Heads to South Wales to fish the river Usk early in the season, hoping for March Browns and Large Dark Olives. He's joined by KZbinr London Flyfisher. Can the guys crack the code? North country spiders feature heavily, andy really enjoys soft hackle fly fishing. Great video Andy, there’s nothing that beats fishing with a friend and sharing the experience. Love your videos they are very informative but mainly so friendly and warm, keep them coming. Just as an aside I would love to see your set up when you catch, like what lead you have and the length of the dropper etc. I look for it each time you catch and wonder what kind of nymph or spider etc. It actually was. That was one of the trout I had been trying to catch on dries, there must have been a straggle March Brown on the water! I never noticed that, even during editing

Really nice video - I do most of my river fishing on the Usk, it’s always good fun. Mostly swinging spiders - had a lot of success with a small Cadillac PTN bead head on point with either Usk Naylor or Olive quill on middle dropper and Hares Lug and Plover or Waterhen Bloa on the top dropper. Though NZ nymph rig has caught some decent sized trout. Am going to start trying some streamer fishing, as few Salmon anglers getting trout on things like Stoats Tail etc. Very relaxing fishing a team of spiders - less work that lobbing nymphs under a bobber.

I went through a few James, but the most productive was a sz14 Hare and Partridge. In truth I wish I'd had a more broad selection, I think I could have fished a sz12 waterhen bloa, maybe even a 10!
