I've watched around 4 videos of yours, and all I can say is that you are obviously a very caring and wonderful mother. I don't think you realise how lovely it is to watch such a natural mother see her children for who they are rather than who they should be. I have alot of anxiety issues about my child (18 months) having autism (it runs in my family) but watching your videos makes me realise that even if he does, children all have they're own way of growing, and that they deserve love and care regardless. I am a pediatric OT..and the part about going home and practicing tasks observed in therapy is EXACTLY right. Kids whose parents do this literally double/triple their progress rate.

Its definitely why I think Liam walked and crawled much earlier than Noah. They only get 30 min with the therapist but if we can take what they are teaching them and implement it at home it helps so much. The therapist tries things that I would've never tried or thought of

Her speech gets better everyday and I help her in pronouncing her words and formulate her sentences. Remember that every child develops at a different rate.

Any updates on your daughter going through the same with my son his speech is delayed and doesn’t put sentences together and has maybe 30 words. He pretend plays and plays with others fine and makes good eye contact he just gets easily upset which I’m guessing is from his lack of words to communicate his needs immediately.

He reminds me so much of my son Cole, who also has Autism. Cole did SO MANY of those same things at that age.. they are very similar. Cole is doing amazing now! He just turned 4 years old and he's far exceeded our expectations... I hope that gives you some hope. Liam is such a sweetheart and I'm so glad that he's getting therapy from such a young age. ❤

I want to thank you for creating videos like this. I have always had that same feeling that you talk about when you knew something was wrong. My 2yr old son has not been diagnosed with autism yet, but we are currently going through the screening/evaluation process. My family is in denial & doesn't want to believe that he is autistic, but I know that he is. He has way too many signs. Stimming, speech delay, social/behavioral issues, etc... Early intervention can make such a difference. It's all about helping the child. Your videos help me understand autism and make me feel that I'm not alone in this. God bless you and your family 💕

I love your videos. I have 4 children and my youngest son Ender was just diagnosed with Autism. He is 4.5 years old. I’ve never dealt with anything like this so I was clueless to the signs and my dr just chalked it up to him being the last child. He had no real signs no regression he was just speech delayed. He didn’t call me mom until he was 3 years old. I’m so glad you found out this early, an early start on therapy for him is amazing. You are doing an amazing job mama!

My son's 18 month appointment was yesterday and his pediatrician has referred us to neurologist for a definitive diagnosis. I knew this was coming. I've been noticing signs for a while now. But one small thing in this video stuck out to me... the jumping! My son is OBSESSED with jumping. He loves to shake his head too while he jumps. As a special education teacher I find that parents are sometimes afraid of a diagnosis or label for their child. I completely understand this fear as no parent wants their child to struggle or be different but for many kids receiving an early diagnosis can make a big difference later in life. With out a diagnosis children can not receive the services and therapy they may need. When kids receive services and therapy early they tend to make better progress and may not need as much support as they get older. Whether your child is “typical” or special needs their brains are constantly growing and developing pathways and skills build upon each other. As a toddler they learn the basics and then they use these basic skills to learn more complex skills. Toddlers with special needs need more help learning these basic skills and if they have the support early then they can master these basic skills and use them to learn more complex skills as they get older. So while a diagnosis can be difficult it doesn’t change the fact that your child is still the same child he/she was before the diagnosis. A diagnosis just means he/she can receive the support they need. An evaluation also means you will be able to determine where your child has strengths and where they may struggle and this can be very helpful in terms of teaching skills and structuring services so that they highlight their strengths.

Ana McDonald you are very welcome!! I have been teaching students with autism for over a decade. Over 20 years ago a neighbor moved in with a severely autistic 3 year old. I was barely a teenager and knew then I wanted to help kids like him and their families as a career. I have taught kids ages 5-18 who where at all different places on the spectrum functioning wise. This means I also worked with many different families. I have helped them through many struggles and have heard their fears. There were many who feared the diagnosis itself and what that meant for their child. They all stated that while it took some time to accept the diagnosis getting the diagnosis meant that they now knew and could take the steps needed to help their child moving forward.

I am studying education right now and have worked with several children with autism. A friend of mine that is special education teacher said that it's better to choose a correct label. It applies to anything. Otherwise, they are getting labeled lazy, stupid, willful etc. I couldn't agree more, even educators sometimes judge the students and parents for a disability.

My daughter is nearly 7 and has severe development delay due to brain damage. At 18 months she couldn’t walk or talk or understand anything, she was in her own world, would flap her hands and spin objects etc and this carried on for years. She still can’t talk due to a speech disorder and doesn’t understand everything we say either and still likes to line up all her toys and fridge magnets, has meltdowns etc. They won’t diagnose autism though because she can ‘role play’ and is quite sociable these days since learning makaton and having therapy. This whole autism thing is so complex. I have traits , my mother has traits also. I think therapy is so important whether you get a diagnosis or not. Meltdowns are the hardest part for our family and I often feel like handing out medals to my other daughters for coping with them. However I think when you have a special needs child it just becomes part of normal life and you end up forgetting how it’s ‘supposed’ to be.

This is the first video I've seen that relates to my situation very closely. I also had 2 babies within 17 months. In my case it is my baby who is on the spectrum and I denied it up until 18 months and when I started to be honest with myself, I realized what had been present since birth. He's autistic. My other 4 children are perfectly "normal" I used quotes there because im not sure what the word "normal" is to be honest. My son also shakes his head in the same exact way your son does. Also the same sleeping patterns (better now though). My son lines up his cars, lines up his food, lines up everything. I feel blessed to have experienced this because before I did, I was ignorant, I thought autism children were something other people had. So I am happy to have woken up. When I was a kid it wasn't something that was diagnosed a lot especially in not in girls. I see all the the behaviors in your kids and it makes me kinda sad and a little bit angry that I was just labeled a bad kid. I think it's amazing that you are sharing your family's journey. me and my big brother both have aspergers and adhd, my big brother has severe adhd and mild aspergers however i have moderate adhd and severe aspergers, i also have dyspraxia and dyslexia. and i am a girl so it was harder to get a diagnosis for me which is unfortunate, but i am in a normal school and i’m 15, i was diagnosed with adhd and dyspraxia at age 5 and dyslexia and aspergers at 7. i have a great quality of life and great friends and i have a boyfriend and i didn’t start talking until i was 22 months and you couldn’t understand what i was saying until a few months after my speech therapy at age 5, i used to just have say s sounds and glugs. i know your little boy will do just fine no matter what level of functioning is. anything is possible with a loving and secure family unit!

White noise worked WONDERS with my boy at nightime! We added a box fan to his room and it turned a 20 month baby who used to wake up every two hours to one that would settle down to sleep. Reading a book or two and keeping a tight schedule made his bedtime like night and day...they don't like change!

Hi, just in case you didnt know the difference, a therapy dog is a dog you own, but take into facilities to help other people feel better, and a service dog is a dog that you own, but is know special tasks specifically to help Noah manage his disabilities.

Watching because my son has some signs that you’ve mentioned before. I definitely wanna mention a few things in his next appointment with his pediatrician. Edit: My 17 month old will literally wake up at like 3am laughing at nothing & walk around the house laughing. He also used to say a lot more words like “momma” but he doesn’t say them anymore. My son shakes his head all the time as well during times that he isn’t communicating (randomly).

Wow. My 18 month old godson has very similar tendencies. He smiles and laughs at any and everything. He used to repeat after us when we encouraged him to speak (saying my name, saying “mama” and “bye bye”) but now he just makes noises, no words. At all. He also spaces out and tilts his head and stares off, or grimaces. We told his mom and she just brushes it off. Idk what to do

I think your a wonderful mom. My great nephew was diagnosed at 4 with autism. He is verbal but does a lot of stemming and talks in a robotic tone. He is 9 now doing well in school. But I noticed when he was two something wasn’t quite right. Finally I suggested that he had autism. Carried him to doctor and when he walked in room he never looked up or acknowledged he came in. Thanks so much for this video! My son is on the spectrum. It became more obvious the older he got (he's almost 5 now). I also have a 1 year old daughter who so far doesn't seem to be. I love my son to pieces but he has some behaviors that are quite difficult and so it's kind of exciting to see my girl being affectionate, showing me things etc. my son was also very chill which was a symptom that we missed for a while since it was (if I'm honest) convenient for us (like, he would sit and look out the window in the car without needing to be entertained. My daughter on the other hand..! 😂) Anyway, I'm still figuring out this whole special needs parenting thing and it's hard and lonely and no one in my life (including my husband 😩) really seems to "get it" so I'm grateful for your channel. ❤️

@@OurLANDingCrew8 her behavioral therapist is working with her on it. Her iron levels were normal as well so it definitely wasn't that. She will be getting her autism evaluation next month so I was told they would look in to how it may be related to autism or sensory processing. In the meantime I try to make sure she has plenty of access to things she can snack on or chew on (she still uses baby teethers quite a bit). I do supplement magnesium but it seems to not have helped much but I wouldn't rule it out as an option if you haven't tried it. I wish I could be more help!

I did not get diagnosed until I was 24 years old so I know that some people are over looked from back in the 80s back and some 90s kids as well

I’m 23 and I still don’t have a diagnosis. I have suspected that I’m on the spectrum since I was 12 and my suspicion has grown over the years as I became more aware of the condition.

Yep I was born in the early 90's and I've had quite a few people say that I have Autistic Tendencies. I'm nearly 27.

You might want to keep that in the back of your mind when you do an update to your Estate planning and consider the creation of a Trust to handle the boys' finances, should something happen to you and Lonnie.

You rock Stephanie! Thank you for explaining everything regarding Liam’s diagnosis in so much detail. Breaking stigmas and educating others is something you should be incredibly proud of achieving. Such a hard and time consuming thing to do when your already a mother to a large fam and make time to create videos like this one. The low muscle tone video would be beneficial to many I would think. When my son was diagnosed with low muscle tone at 7 days old I really didn’t know what that actually meant for him. Low muscle tone also has a spectrum, my son has always been very tiny and had underdeveloped muscles. He has always been very underweight part of the low muscle tone and his diagnosis. He had absolutely no head control which was noticed shortly after birth. That was really scary as a new mother working out the best way to pick up, carry and hold a newborn who had such a floppy head with no neck control. Something I will be hyper aware of and looking out for when our next bub arrives in about 4 weeks time.

My son who’s 8 now has special needs. Cerebral palsy, autism, chromosome duplication 9q34.11-34.3. He had pulmonary hypertension when he was born, vur grade 5, torticollis, needed eye surgery. He also was obsessed with cords and did the head shaking thing which is now a full body rocking. He’s not potty trained yet. I understand a little of what you go through. Hang in there!

I'm watching this sobbing. When you mentioned hearing him babble at 13 months then not at all, that's my daughter. Currently ruling out ear infection, hearing issues, before doing testing for ASD. She has all the symptoms. Obsession with specific objects, no interaction with others, hand flapping, etc. I have ASD and so of course I'm concerned. We are doing early intervention at the moment.

On the mchat, one of the questions was "have you ever thought that your child might be deaf?" Due to them not responding to their name and what not. I think they should add something about thinking that they might be blind... from the time he was just a couple weeks old, my husband and I thought our autistic 6 year old might have a problem with his sight because he would stare into space and never seemed to be looking at people.

Even deaf folks have been misdiagnosed with intellectual disabilities and at one point some had been institutionalized back in the 1900's-the late 50's. It took the Deaf Community a lot of work to get the change they needed as well. I actually learned about self-advocacy while taking ASL in high school. Really suggest if for the little ones to learn ASL as well as a backup(if they are non-verbal but also should just for those confused moments(for more open communication).

Us moms just know, the gut feeling is real. I have 3 sons, the 2 youngest are non identical twins. I knew the fist of the twins had something going on. His development was just different from his twin but i could not put my finger on it but that gut feeling did not go away. He has learning difficulties, social and psychological issues, like anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder and germophobia. He is now 22 and struggling a lot (also he struggles with being gay, i don't, becaus i knew that even before he was ever aware there was a word for it) moms know😁😍 it is a super power!!!! And i am proud if it💪. Trust it. And trust you, you are an amazing mom and doing great!!!. Lot of love from across the pond (the netherlands 🤣🇳🇱)

My daughter autistic she didn’t reach any of her milestones. She has learning difficulties and dyspraxia but now she 18 yrs old and I wouldn’t change her for the world. She very very loving and loves nothing more than a cuddle but she doesn’t realise how strong she s now . As they get older it does in my case get easier. I found her being a toddler was hard, she wouldn’t walk on the floor at all and wanted to be carried. If you put her down she would scream. she had a big fear of being or getting dirty. That’s never changed she still has a big fear of germs . She constantly get changed and showers and washes far longer than needed. She was really bad for not making eye contact and Is delayed in all areas. She beautiful and I love her so much. My daughter got diagnosed at 2 yrs old .xx
