We had a huge tree taken out and even though it did a number on the lawn, my centipede is already sending out runners. It’s going to look fantastic next year

Chris Hastings, who wrote southern lawns, recommends fertilizing first so the grass isn’t as stressed from the herbicide. Some weeds more effectively transfer the herbicide into their root system after fertilzation. It’s a different philosophy and has worked for me. Both methods work, just thought I’d pass my info along.

Excited to see a new video and season! I just applied spectracide atrazine Sunday, finally got a nice 10 day window of no rain. So I’m excited to see what it does. Got a 40lb bag of Andersons 16-0-8 waiting to throw that down till around May

Sounds like a good plan. It will roast the poa annua which is why atrazine is a good choice.

man i love you channel! wish i had found it sooner, inherited a centipede lawn & it needs some major love. yard is totally infested with wild violet and seems like some fungus spots. trying to be patient:))

Lowes has a 4-0-10 organic fertilizer with sea kelp and humid acid. Just put it out here in coastal SC. Hope its ok this early since it’s slow release.

I don’t like to do weed apps too close together. I get a little nervous about that causing damage. I like to wait about a month before determining if it’s necessary. No bearing on fertilizer times. Thanks for watching

Hi, I love your videos. Always vey informative. I have a question, hopefully you can help me. I am planning to seed by centepide grass due to multiple patches but I also have some weed that has been difficult to kill. 3 weeks ago I applied Celsius and most of the weed is gone by now but still have some. My question is, when should be safe to reapply? How long after seeding can I use it? Thanks

Thank you - The label says 4-6 weeks after initial application a second app could be made. It could be tricky w seeding though. I’d be careful and just spot spray after 4-6 weeks or hand pull if possible

Yeah that’s about it. Just don’t completely soak too much bc it will get fungus. Many recommend only watering new sod the first year

Centipede is struggling in damp soil. Will top dressing help dry up soil?

Some topdressing actually enhances moisture retention so you may want to mix in some sand for drainage and think about aerating

I went with a blanket spray this time. I’m already seeing some results 2 days later. By next week I should see some real good results.

Nice! I got two of the small packets of Celsius. I’m on day 4 of Atrazine with no rain and mid 80s everyday so far. So what the atrazine doesn’t kill I’m gonna spot spray with Celsius. That’s the plan anyways

-side note I think you were right about applying a pre-emergent close to green up. I’m seeing stolens growing, but bouncing off some bare spots not tacking down 😢

I live down in Mobile, AL, zone 8b, and I had my swimming pool taken out. I put out centipede seed from Hancock Farms and fertilized according to their directions. I water daily like they said but the seed is just sitting there not doing anything. I may have to plant centipede plugs and forget the seed which by the way was not cheap at all. I have full sun so perhaps I should switch to Bermuda seed.

How long has the centipede seed been down? Did you add any organic matter like humus or peat moss so the seed would be mixed in and settle? It may take a while to germinate.

Last year I planted centipede on bare ground but I watered 3 times a day, I’m in va, keeping it wet is the secret till it germinates then cut it back to two times a day. I have real sandy soil. I live on the banks of the Chick river. It looks great this year already a few weeds but I’m hoping it will choke most out in a year or so. Good. Luck

I need help! I have a spot in my grass that’s starting to turn yellow. The past weekend I sprayed weed killer to kill weeds and I have a thatch problem and a few bare spots. Last year I wasn’t able to properly maintain my lawn as usual because I was pregnant. Please tell me what can I do to get a healthy lawn again.

The yellow spot could be a few things: grubs (this is time of year they attack roots), chlorosis, herbicide/fertilizer burn… the main thing is mow consistently and since you have already put weed killer down, fertilize within the next couple of weeks

If it was me with a big bare spot I would wait until mid May and take some plugs from a good area and place them in the bare spot area.

Several options: 1) sod is the easiest and best. And centipede sod is fairly cheap per piece. 2) get some centipede seed preferably Tifblair. Takes careful attention and the right care. 3) plug like the other suggestion mentioned 4) mow like crazy and it will encourage lateral spreading but it will take a while depending on how big the spot is.

@@DarrellAndersondeerightguys Usually in a lawn you have a bad area that grow thin and some area that is lush and thick. Take plugs from the thick lush area and put it in your bare spot areas.

Was planning on using that StaGreen 16-0-10 again, but did my first soil test, said my front yard was deficient in P and K (despite looking decent), recommended 5lbs/1k sqft of 10-10-10. Backyard said only N needed, so planning on a 24-0-6 along those lines. Any experience with 10-10-10/is it okay to place down on centipede in spring? I'm nervous about the phosphorus. Might also consider retesting and just sticking with the StaGreen for first application.

Yeah the only thing about soil tests is they usually don’t take into account the grass type. It’s just a general suggestion for overall plant health. I would probably stay away from the Phosphorus or keep it very low. Centipede doesn’t like P and it can tie up Iron.

That’s a challenging problem on centipede grass. There is a product at lowes but it’s not safe on centipede. There are products out there but usually pretty expensive. The chemical is called Sethoxydim and found in products like Vantage, Poast, Segment. Never tried them myself.

Our front lawn is 7.02 pH. I've been applying sulfur as instructed but man centipede does not like that high ph.

I ran across a good deal last night at Lowes. Saved 105 dollars on 3 bags of lesco weed and feed for st Aug. 20-0-3. So my cenipede is gonna get fertilized and treated for weeds at the same time. Remember you said lazy man's grass.😂
