So I started my KZbin about two years ago and that was when I planted the tree. It would have been pencil thin and placed through metal around the time that I started my KZbin, because that is when I first made my growing beds. So yeah, it was one year from a twig to that! I always have a few outliers like this one that grow like crazy. I have two or three like that this year. Most others get to an inch or so in diameter, give or take a quarter inch.

It will start warming up here within the next month or so. Have to start now to get all the trees worked before spring. I will store these in my greenhouse and I'm trying to work the ones that need the least root work now, and saving the more intensive ones for closer to actual spring.

Do you think it would be too early to dig up some Zelkova I have in the ground? I'm in zone 8b so it's winter here and the lowest temperature we've had is -3C / 26F. Great video by the way!

How extensive is the root work you are wanting to do? If you have a way to keep the roots from freezing, you can probably dig. However, I probably wouldn't bare root it just yet. If you want to do a full root work, I'd wait until spring is just around the corner.
