Whether it’s early or not, an early stoppage is always better than a late one. Like yeah it definitely sucks if the fighter had something left but a ref operating with caution and intent to protect the fighter is their primary purpose. When they don’t operate this way, have a bad view, or are just slow, it can lead to some of the most horrific finishes that can cause lifelong damage to the fighter. It’s like airlines having tons of safety checks that they go through and will sometimes delay your flight and get a new plane over what could just be a burned out lightbulb on a safety check button. It’s a pain and inconvenient but you’d prob prefer they operate that way as opposed to the alternative and having something bad happen.

@@aa-zz6328 Why risk his longevity as a fighter and his quality of life as he ages for a really low chance of coming back and winning the fight? The refree has to ensure the safety of the fighters, Jiri suffered 2 big concussions in a short period of time. If the fight continued, Pereira would be mounted on a dazed Jiri Prochazka, that would almost certainly absorb big shots and suffer a third concussion and ending the fight. Even if somehow he manages to survive the round, he was in pieces, his leg was fucked and he also suffered major head trauma while Pereira suffered way less damage.

@@zamelificationhe risks all that by just getting in the cage, its apart of fighting. If you're worried about safety don't fight in a cage. @clipkut4979
@clipkut4979 Жыл бұрын
Early stoppage for a few reasons: 1) As Jiri fell backward, Alex was outbalanced forward on a very high mount and therefore was forced to post his hands on the mat. This means that he could not have attacked Jiri for at least another couple of seconds, because he MUST re-adjust his balance and secure the mount first. Goddard could have let those few moments play out as there was literally no immediate danger for Jiri. No point in rushing the stoppage 2) In the last few moments, under the mount, Jiri tries to reach for Alex's wrists and then positions the hands in a high guard to protect his head. Those hands were not limp but active at that moment. He already regained his functions and was working on defending himself. 3) Jiri recovered immediately after the fight was stopped, and was on steady legs as he got up. Clearly not that compromised, he could have survived the 50 seconds that were left in the round if he was given time to get out of the mount or at least give up his back. 4) The mount position was not secured. Look at the amount of empty space between Alex's groin and Jiri's belly. That's plenty of space to escape out of the back door, shrimp to half guard and control posture or bridge. Jiri had plenty of options to improve his position, it's not like he was stuck in a crucifix or a tight mount where he couldn't get out. All these things must be taken into consideration when judging if a fighter's safety is in "immediate danger" and he's unable to improve his position, or if he's safe to continue for another 5 seconds. In this case, Jiri was still 100% safe from danger for another few seconds and had a reasonable chance at improving his position, so they should have let it play out. In all likelihood, with a leg compromised and those headshots he absorbed he was not going to win regardless, so it's not that upsetting, but still an early stoppage.

Great point. Technically he didn’t shoot a double leg he went down after the left hook. Than just out of pure heart and auto pilot from training he trys to go for the double leg. Double leg technique consiste of locking arms together at this level or having a strong hold behind the knee. Jiri doesn’t accomplish either one because his arms go completely limp and he falls back. It was an excellent high level stoppage that has to be praised not hated.

I still disagree & feel as if it was a premature stoppage. I'm not denying that Jiri went limp momentarily after that well-placed elbow, my issue lies in the fact that Goddard didn't step in to stop it _because_ of that elbow - he only stopped it moments later after Jiri had tried to clasp his hands, & ended up falling backward, incidentally pulling Pereira into mount, & by that time Jiri had (at-least somewhat) recovered. I think at that point you have let it play out a little further before you stop the fight, especially when it's for an undisputed title. Jiri was humble in defeat & didn't want to take anything away from Pereira (hence why he didn't protest the stoppage) because that's just who he is - he's an honorable, humble guy, but you can see it written all over his face immediately after the stoppage when he's standing-up & the Dr is attending to him; his eyes are as wide as saucers, & he looks furious, staring daggers at Mark Goddard like he wanted to choke him to death. To me, that's enough to suggest he didn't agree w/the stoppage 🤷🏼‍♂️ There's a big difference in being stunned & being out-cold, & if you've ever sparred &/or competed in any combat sport you know that a shot that lands to the temple, on or around your ear almost always sends that immediate jolt throughout your body & throws off your equilibrium, & I believe Jiri was temporarily stunned, however i don't think Jiri ever lost consciousness nor was he out of that fight quite yet. If you need any evidence to support this, Just look at his fight w/Glover - he was rocked & dropped multiple times, took a far more significant beating, & in 1 instance (similarly to this fight) was even mounted after being dropped by Texiera, yet he was still able to rally back & win the LHW title in that fight. The Dominic Reyes fight is an even better example of this. I understand that it's a fine-line to walk for refs, deciding whether or not a fight should continue or not, but I believe it should be judged on a case by case basis. The refs that night seemed to be far less anxious & willing to let the fights play out in the prelims, however overly cautious in the later fights w/much more significant implications, when it should be the other way around, especially when it involves guys like Jiri, based on his wins vs the circumstances he overcame in the fights i mentioned previously w/Glover Teixeira & Dominic Reyes. He's shown a zombie🧟‍♂️like ability to recover from being rocked or dropped, after eating shots that would literally kill the average person, proceeding to finish both opponents afterward. You *HAVE* to give fighters the chance to recover, based on their own recognizance, *_especially_* in title fights, & double-especially when it comes to guys who have a history of not only surviving in similar situations, but coming back & finishing his opponents as Jiri has. IMO we were robbed of a potential all-timer here, & while I can't predict when or how exact circumstances or specific events are going to play out w/out speculating, I can use past examples to gain a pretty good idea, & based on his prior performance against Texiera (a world class jujitsu black-belt w/a devastating mount) Jiri has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, & he is more than capable of nullifying G&P from the bottom, & will patienctly wait for opportunities to explode & reverse positions. Meanwhile In that time he could very well have completely recovered, & possibly (probably) would've swept Alex to wind-up on top, being the superior grappler in that situation. It really is a shame he wasn't given the opportunity to do so.✌🏻🧔🏼‍♂️

Jiri was out but he was briefly out the same way Cyril Gane was out when Tuivasa connected a hit. It's understandable as to why people think Jiri could've still turned things around; because fighters have prevailed before when a referee doesn't immediately stop a fight. I'm still happy Alex won though. Just wish it was more convincing so people would have less excuses to downplay him.

I also had to rewatch it, but Jiri's hands definitely go limp and his right leg which he was trying to use to get up also seems to buckle, and then he seems to start coming back somewhat as he's falling over, so Goddard could have maybe given him a few extra seconds, but after getting dropped by the hook, and then going limp from the elbows and ending up fully mounted, he likely would have eaten some extra shots from the mount, so it seems fair after all, Jiri is a stud for not making any excuses either or trying to diminish Alex's win, real warrior shit right there

Made an entire video to explain Jiri got flash Koed even tho he was still fine. There are so many fighters who get flashed KOed but are not stopped and they continue fighting. But you/referee don't notice it and the fight goes on to a decision or stoppage from something else without you making anything about it. Whittaker literally got flash Koed way worse than this in the first Izzy fight and got saved by the bell. Jiri fight got stopped by the ref before his head even hit the canvas...

It doesn't signify a valid stoppage at all. It's split second reaction, and it's the sort of thing that happens in a fight. Jiri has been rocked many times in many fights because of his high risk style. What has separated him, is his ability to fight through those situations, and to drag his opponent into a kind of chaos where Jiri seems to excel. Jiri has proven to have great recuperative power, and Goddard should know that. AND it's for the belt! You give guys opportunities to fight through bad situations when it's for the belt. They work so hard, their whole lives for that opportunity, and it's one which doesn't often come twice in fight sports. A knockout is not the worst thing in the world, it's part of the sport, let it be definitive. That wasn't definitive at all.

You have no idea what you talking about Doc.. At the time Mark stopped the fight Jiri was not out. He was clearly grabbing Alex legs. This is far from ending the fight. Especially title fight especially with fighters like Jiri where we know what he can survive. If he let that go fight continue couple seconds more and we saw Jiri looking up and Alex pounding him with strikes that is the moment you stop fight like this. Exactly like we saw fight earlier Sergei vs Tom.. Like your videos in general, but MMA rules and how it goes in TOP fights in the UFC you clearly don't have much idea..

The ref just put himself in a difficult position to decide. Jiri got flash KO'd after the left by Alex, then flash KO'd again when Alex was elbowing and punching him. Jiri's hands went limped but as soon as he was dropping on his back, his hands were clamped on Alex legs pulled alex down with him. Which means Jiri proved he got quick recovery and the ref should have let that continue a little longer.

People who have never been knocked out or rocked dont understand. You can be fully awake eyes open either fighting or talking and still be blacked out and concussed to the point that you will have no recollection of anything after the initial blow. Its like being teleported through time and spacr and any additional damage during this time is where the brain damage stacks up.

yeah, but that's still apart of fighting and recovering during the fight happens also, should we just stop fights once someone gets stunned after one hard punch? or the first knockdown? your argument doesn't stand up logically because you have no practical benchmark of when it should be stopped.
