Try to watch the early build order also always scout & build bunkers if you see the enemy going for a rush attack usually scout at every 2-3 min mark of the game.

Sorry for the late view and comment lol but I am a new subscriber ..... By the way the most important confederation unit to be upgraded ( after the assault of course ) is the vertex .... Your vertex being maxed is very important for you as a confederation player ........ I am rank 16 and my vertex is maxed and it really game me a lot of benefits and advantages on my enemy ....
