Living near the Great Lakes, I plan to shoot boats and yachts for sail staring in the spring. I'll be approaching marinas and yacht brokers. I never thought about the landscape business. One thing that I didn't know when I just brought my first drone, is that you need a computer capable of editing 4k video, something I wish I knew about beforehand. I have gone through several avenues to try to edit my videos, but haven't been able to yet.

Hey Jason! Have you thought about using proxies? This allows you to edit with lower resolution files but then still output at full 4K. Programs like Filmora offer it, they have a free trial so maybe give it a go. Good luck.

Great video as always Sean, Mini 2 certainly a drone in the toolkit that I often use. I've personally used it a couple of times on roofing jobs alongside the Mavic 2 Pro. It has it's limitations but it's a lot of drone for such a small UAV

I've been shooting stills for real estate agents for more than 10 years. In the last few, some of the work has dropped off as iphones keep getting better. Theyu are not as good as pro photos, but for some clients they are good enough. For years I've worked in partnership with a specific drone company, but the Mini 2 is so good, and so cheap I've started adding it as an extra to my stills work to make sure I keep getting hired.

Thanks so much for this, I love your videos that are aimed precisely at my drone as often people make videos and they relate to larger drones so the advice isn’t quite the same. I’ve done a couple of roof surveys, recording as video then went through frame grabbing to give the client shots of the missing tiles etc. What’s your recommended way for people to contact you if they want work doing ? The last couple used Twitter to ask me, the contact me thing via KZbin isn’t the best way I guess. I watermark all my video as these days it’s easy to download the source video from KZbin. Very handy well researched video, thanks for making that

Hey comedyhunter! A few of my contacts who do a lot of this work have a cheap pay and you go phone and plaster that number all over their social media etc. That way they are not exposing their main number and people can reach you quickly etc.

I know my Mavic Mini only shoots in 2.7k, but the footage from that can still be nearly as good as the 4k version. I would love to use my Mavic Mini to earn some extra money.

Recently though, I have been mainly using the Air 2S for roofing, structural and insurance services. I live near the coast and to be honest, the M2 can struggle in some of the conditions I have flown in. Needless to say, the M2 still plays a part in my toolkit. Thanks Raj! Very kind of you. No A2 needed for Mini 2 in A2 airspace. In fact you can fly it in A1 or A2 with only an Operator ID and having read the manual! Happy flying!

In theory all sounds very good however in reality it’s not quite as easy as that. I know lots of site managers now have their own Mini 2’s as well as the roofing contractors as there’s no way they are going to pay £150 each time they want some photos. I have a few sites local to me and I’ve even offered free images (which I really don’t like doing) and they’ve turned that down! There is plenty of drone work out there but it all seems to be high end stuff.

Hi Sean, thanks for the video's seen so far. I am considering purchasing my first drone (have been for the past few months and have been so badly swayed to the Mav 2 for photographic hobby in our moho) but having seen the regs about "legacy drones" wonder if it is worth while now buying an "unclassified drone" for the high purchase price when in a year it will be classified at a lower level A3 sent to the sin bin of open country only (even with relevant courses) - Unless I have misread the new CAA rules. would appreciate your views.

Hey Martin! The Mavic 3 is a legacy drone so it will require either an A2 CofC or GVC course to be able to fly it in UK congested areas such as towns and villages etc. However, if you wait for the Mavic 3 to get one of the new C labels, it should be classed as C1 which will mean you can fly it pretty much the same as the Mini 2 right without intentional flight over people. Hope this helps.

I just wondered, if I sell a video to, let's say a developer of a site, who owns the copyright after the sale? do I keep the copyright and leave the watermarked version on my youtube channel or website for sale? after all a house purchaser might like a record of their house being built? or does the video become the exclusive property of the initial purchaser?

If the client commissions you to take footage for them, then THEY own the copyright, but if you take the footage "ad hoc" and sell it to someone because they like it and want to use it, then YOU own the copyright. That is a much simplified answer, but it gives you an idea.

Hey Steve! I tend to find very specific and personal approaches work well. Flyers etc are great but the response rate is very low. I focus on tracking down site owners and landscapers etc to have a quick chat with them or send them a personal email. One or two good connections can start to bring in a bit of work which of course as you will know from the building trade leads on to more from word of mouth etc. Hope this helps and good luck.

Hey Droning about Ireland! The Mavic 3 is more than capable and arguably even better as a drone itself for much of this work. The issue comes when regulation comes into it. At the moment under UK and EASA rules the M3 is a legacy drone so it requires certificates and separation that would make a lot of these jobs difficult for a hobbyist flyer.
