I've seen similar things as well in gardening. 1st year requires a lot of effort for not much result, but each year it's so much easier to do more with less effort. It's very comforting ❤

I love how gentle your videos come across. I've watched a few other "how to make a living off your art", and they tend to stress me out. Like I need to follow their points exactly this way or that way, and right now! But yours are realistic and help put my mind at ease.:)

I think I would’ve never considered a KZbin channel if it weren’t for mimimoo. And thinking more critically about the art biz in general - her choice to not have product stock resonates with me for the same reason! It’s made me think more about how I can build my biz to be “travel lite” and more passive. My biggest personal struggle is honing in on one “style” to market. I’ve tried licensing for pattern and fabric as well as editorial for magazines. It’s all so different! I think I need to start being more critical in that regard.

I feel you😢 after a failed attempt to make a business from my art, I’ve learned you have to think more about the business side and marketing side more then how good your art is unfortunately. If you don’t know how to sell yourself, market yourself, your art maybe amazing but isn’t enough. Btw, your illustrations are amazing 😭

Thank you so much for sharing this!!! ❤ You’re the art youtuber that I actually look up to the MOST! 😆 I do comms instead of picture books and I have a digital shop. As someone whose focus is on growing my digital products, out of the 3 income streams you shared, TEACHING is the only one left that I haven’t done yet but I’ve been wanting to do the MOST! It’s just been challenging between drawing the tutorial AND filming/editing it by myself. Do you have any tips for when I open a Patreon to teach?
@MimimooIllustration
@MimimooIllustration Ай бұрын
Oh that's great to hear! A lot of people have about 1 Patron for every 1000 followers they have in their free communities (as a very rough generalisation!) so if you already have an established audience then you should be able to start building on Patreon. You can make free content there now as well, so if you're not sure then you could start posting simple, free content to test it out and then create paid tiers for bigger content when you're ready 😊

@MimimooIllustration Ай бұрын
It's common to post the cover of the book in the lead up to the book being launched, but other than that I usually wait until the book is released. It's totally up to the publisher, artist and author though, as long as you all agree that it's ok to post some sneak peaks of the art then I don't see a problem!

A lot of these videos have been popping up lately, but they’re not helpful for me. I can’t follow up on this advice because I have yet to find what it is that will fufill me when I draw it. I have to really force myself to draw, and I don’t enjoy it. I keep procrastinating. I’m not sure if it’s the result of my collective mental health issues, or if I’m just not ready yet. It feels like I NEED to do art. I have always felt it. And when I try to quit art, I get so frustrated with the “YOU NEED TO DO ART” feelings I have. I’m healing my inner child, going to therapy, and finding out who I really am after a lifetime of living in a dysfunctional and abusive household. I need to regain the spontaniety and wonder I lost, and reignite my passion, plus I have to figure out how to turn those results into something marketable…. I’ve been wondering if there are other people like me, what helped you improve. I keep thinking I would like an art mentor to quide me and check in with me, but I’m still not really financially stable so a lot of people’s rates are out of my budget.

Hello. Here is my budget friendly recommendation. Make strong coffe, and weak coffee. Splat it on paper. Take a pen and just doodle on it. Don't try to make something grate. Do you like scales? add scales here and there, flowers? make some abstract flowers or lines. Listen to music while you do this. The point is to just doodle until you (hopefully) get into it. Sometimes that can take a long time, sometimes short and sometimes it doesn't work at all, BUT it usually works (for me). Then when you get a bit into it, find one thing that you wish you could draw. Like for example wavy fabrick, then try to add that to the painting/drawing. Sometimes you end up with something cool, sometimes it is garbage. I just focused on learning how to make one thing until I felt kind of confident in it. Then I moved on to learning something else. Just building. It can be overwhelming attempting to learn anatomy and basics for drawing in the beginning. This was how I overcame what sounds like the same issue as you. Hope it helps and I wish you luck :)

Fellow mentally unstable artist here. I struggled with very strong I NEED TO DO ART while also feeling gross during the art itself. I think figuring out why you're struggling will help. For me, it was frustration with my skill level, not progressing fast enough, feeling overwhelmed by all the steps because I am self taught, feeling overwhelmed by having to take out and clean up art supplies, feeling terrified of messing up and not knowing how to course correct. Ultimately, what's gotten me out of my funk is to A) diversify types of mediums and platforms B) stop cleaning up the art supplies since that was causing me stress with my limited amount of spoons. C) Get familiar with digital art so I can get over my fear of messing up D) Find videos for how to correct common mistakes across other mediums to help with that same fear E) Think critically about where I'm unhappy with my art and JUST DO THAT THING. Over and over and over again until I can see improvement. Thus rebuilding my fragile and shattered confidence. Everywhere else in life I'm used to being competent and a quick learner so this has been frustrating. Finding ways to tackle the things that hold me back and giving me freedom to procrastinate on one task by working on others has helped. If I'm not doing acrylic, I'm working on a children's book portfolio, or my etsy store or pet portraits or KZbin or my website. Eventually, a whole project will get finished 😂 Do some soul searching and then find some solutions. Then connect the dots from A to D with the little steps in between to facilitate that solution. ❤

I'm exactly the same. In the end, the "I HAVE to do art" feeling is not helpful and just stresses me out. So I got a job completely unrelated to art and made it my hobby instead. No pressure. I draw when I want and what I want.

Am I the only one who misses when there were videos of her actual art process? I used to love just watching her draw and paint and now every single video is about her business. It might be about art still but it's really just like a seminar on how to grow a business which whatever if that's what she wants to do now but I subscribed years ago to watch her draw not this.
