Thanks for always being so transparent with us! I love your process. I think that I do something pretty similar when I create a new composition. I do not think you are cheating. Drawing from reference is part of creating or visual library, so indeed it's a great tip!

It's beautiful. Besides, it was your idea so I don't think it's cheating. I use AI to create references, I'm a beginner but I believe there's no right or wrong level to use references. :)

I love the idea of using generative AI for reference photos! The way I see it, it’s totally different from using generative AI to actually produce artwork. It seems like a great way to quickly tailor your references to your needs, and when those references are used in the way that you use them where you aren’t necessarily copying directly, but rather using them as a starting point, I think it’s awesome. Thanks for sharing!

1: Google term "call to artists", some pay some don't. In America it's as if every location has a hundred or so. Pay doesn't always profit. Start with free or public/government project instead of one's with fees unless your art is OBJECTIVELY amazing. Number 2: know your audience. ask your customer what they like or don't like. Art isn't about you it's about them connecting with you. Don't paint landscapes for a portrait competition. Number 3: include novelty. Add something unusual. Number 4: if it your art sucks, it sucks. Ask people what they like about it and what they don't like. Everyone knows what sucks. Don't take it personally, consider it a gift that can help you sell. In fact, you should have to sell art, you're helping your customer buy art. Pro tip: 1 Would you rather sell to everyone including poor people? Or would you like to rinse the rich? I personally do not want poor people's money. They need it. I think it is morally just to sell something for $30000. Pro tip 2: everything face to face is better. Consider sales a friend making experience. Being an artist is making money being authentic. You deserve it. It'll take 10 years.

Thank you Mimi 💛 this is kind an advice I really need right now. I am someone who is not actually start from zero to start in my art journey, but I really lack in courage and have sooo much self doubts. I always have a dream to be a children book illustrator like you, but always think that I am not good enough to start the career. and I always have the fear of starting too late, especially with those AI things going on right now. Your videos always been one that remind and encouraging me to just put a start. Thanks again Mimi, you help me a lot 💛

“I’m not a get rich quick success story” immediately states it took 2 years to become professional 🥲 meanwhile I’m at 5+ years and still working a day job full time. 😭 no shade tho, I am glad of your success, just sharing my feelings where every early 20-something is already making a name for themselves and like “ guyyssss it took me SO LONG” and I just turned 30 fml 🥹

Thank you very much for this video, it was motivating and encouraging! You are a true inspiration, I eventually would like to become a self-taught illustrator like you! I have recently re-started my KZbin journey and I am creating very simple "... with me" kind of videos while I am writing my thesis :) Hope to turn my channel into an art direction after I am done with my PhD journey.

Hi Mimi, I've only discovered your channel last night. Thank you for providing us all these valuable informations about being a creator, your videos are absolutely inspiring! I have also started my channel like you did and filmed "very easy" videos but eventually I want to be an artist like you and give value to my subscribers. A course for filming and editing youtube videos from you and Dan would be really helpful. Thank you very much!

I was looking through art videos for how to get started as an artist online. I found all kinds of videos about people using AI and free images to make coloring books to sell. I was laughing at their foolishness because it seemed like they were taking the easy way out and this was understandable to me. Then I came across your video and watched it again. Then I remembered how some people don't give up on their dreams. I'm extremely grateful for your advice because it's realistic, honest, inspiring, and motivating. And this is exactly the advice I need to get started. 🙂

Mimi, I wish I could thank you enough. I am 27 years old and my years after school have felt like a waste. I have a degree in UX, but I have not been able to find a job. I have found peace in digital drawing and now I want to find my own art style. Seeing your journey has given me hope. Thank you so so much.
