Two notes on the ankle pick: 1) it's a riskier move, he's putting himself in a position to get hit with the same overtie slide by that he hits, and 2) he uses the pick as an entry to his double leg. Obviously if hve can get the pick, he'll score that way. But a lot of times, the guy reacts and he drives to his double. Really good stuff. This kid is slick.

Bro I’d like to speak on behalf of the entire wrestling community by thanking u so much for putting your time, energy, and expertise into creating this visual breakdowns for us. I would’ve paid big bucks for this content 25 yrs ago and had this channel been available resource to me, back in my days of competition (‘99-‘01) I honestly believe that I would’ve been a 3x State Champ instead of a 1x in SC. It’s amazing how far this sport this has come over the last 25 yrs and I’m proud of our community. It’s guys like you that are creating the new future hammers and I appreciate your efforts bro. Back in my SC highschool days, if you were seeking high-level visual breakdowns like this, it didn’t exist. I yearned for any training resources I could find and back then so I had to personally raise thousands of 💵 to travel 16 hrs to a PA camp like J-Rob. Shout out to any survivors of the ‘99 J-Rob camp out there bc back then, we had very little wrestling training videos available. There were no cell phones to record matches. If you wanted to scout an opponent, you had to travel to see them compete live and hope you could find a rich parent with a camcorder willing to let you borrrow the tape so you could review it later. It was so rare to see any wrestling on TV at that time that asking a coach to breakdown videos like this would’ve been an absolutely crazy request. So we killed ourselves physically bc these training aids were not readily available to avg kid to build mat IQ, slick moves, setups, defenses, and chain wrestling. Viewers please take advantage of this free gold. This would’ve been a cheat code in my days 😂.s Keep up the great work my friend. I can hear your passion throughout these breakdown vids and I really hope you find fulfillment in knowing that you’re elevating the sport by creating much smarter and more versatile wrestlers with your work. I doubt there’s any of my fellow old-time beasts from the ‘99 J-Rob 28-day Intensive Camp (Edinboro, PA) that earned that Black Shirt reading this but if so, big shout outs and holla back at ur boy! #EarnYourGoldMedal 🔥💯🇺🇸💪🏻🏅🤼🏆👏🏼♥️

@@earnyourgold Man no reason to apologize for a seemingly “generic thanks”. You’re going to continue to grow so fast that there will soon come a point where you can’t realistically reply to every comment on a personal level. And though we all appreciate the interactions with you, when you’re providing this much value, to this many wrestlers, you’ve already done your part. Just keep up the good work brother and this community will continue ride or die with you. From South Carolina with love & support my guy!

@@cashrules520 Bro you nailed it saying “wrestling videos were a secret” back then. And ur right, there was no DVDs yet, you were the dopest wrestler at the time if you had any wrestling video. In 1998 when I was a HS freshman, I got hands on our SC 4A Dual Finals match against Rock Hill where we upset them. I was told by the coach that I had 1 day to borrow it and I cherished it like gold. To get a copy would just unrealistic at the time and when I “misplaced” it so that I could hang on to it over the weekend, I got in deep s#!+ 🤣

The best counter to someone knee dropping is to post on their head (with your trail leg arm of course so they can’t shoot) and they will almost always always wrist roll and as they do you hit a arm drag with your free hand immediately and run your feet for the go behind or if he comes up to a knee latch switch off double. When he grabs your wrist his arm will go wherever you go as he’s locked on to you so you use it against him. I call it a reverse grip wrist roll. John smith uses this technique a lot. He would also drop down to a one knee as well and club with trail leg arm to a head in the basket front head lock. People saying you can just blast through him are ignorant he’s ready for it. Unless you hit a fake to get him to drop to his knees and times the double after as soon as he hits his knees like Burroughs does all the times it won’t work. He’s doing this on purpose and has his looney reacting. He wants you to step in to try and shoot when he hits his knees. If you attempt to bum rush him after he drops He will be in on your leg before you even get a chance
@AW1519922 жыл бұрын
Love the way you broke down this video. One thing I’ve always done against people that wrestle from 1 or 2 knees against me is the minute they drop, I basically bull rush them with a two hand push and drive. The reason being is because it’s hard to retreat on 1-2 knees. I either end up forcing a bad shot to force front headlock or they’re forced to stand back up because they can’t move backwards on 1-2 knees. When coming up with this analysis, did you notice people do this at all to counter this game of wrestling from the knees? Just curious as it’s the only things I’ve ever found in my “research” to negate this style of wrestling.
@earnyourgold2 жыл бұрын
I've seen that before and I have seen the guy on the ground have to stand back up, but for some reason no one even tried to do it to McGee, so maybe it isn't as safe of an approach at the highest level. I could see him being able to post to a leg attack or move laterally. To be honest, especially on the high school level, I would just keep doing what you're doing unless you notice it no longer working
@AW1519922 жыл бұрын
@@earnyourgold I might need to go back and watch some freestyle matches for guys that wrestle from their knees. Maybe it's more prevalent there because of the push out rules. But I agree, I don't see it a lot at the college level. Maybe the speed and athleticism get to the point where the athletes blast through it and finds way around it but in my case, I've had success using it against a variety of people in different skill and physical attribute ranges,

Match his level and keep at least one arm out in front. This protects your ankles and anything low. His only other option is to drive into you. Don't be tempted to entertain him, let him make the move. Keep your elbows tight and catch everything he throws and/or counter reshoot.
