Het verschil tussen dit soort bands uit de 60-er en 70-er jaren en de muziek van tegenwoordig laat zich het beste omschrijven als het verschil tussen popmuziek en industriemuziek. In feite ging het toen om het eigene en werd er muziek gemaakt vanuit een passie, alleen en ook met elkaar. Tegenwoordig zijn er sjablonen van akkoordenschema's en is de commerciële industrie in handen van een paar schrijvers die er alles aan doen om de macht vast te houden. Maar ook theoretisch bekeken kun je zeggen dat er melodisch en harmonisch qua compositie veel minder eentonigheid en eenvormigheid was in die jaren. In die zin is de industriemuziek een conservatief instituut slechts bedoeld voor één ding. Je kunt het vanuit veel perspectieven bekijken, maar aan het eind van de streep is de netto uitkomst er een dat het oninteressant, voorspelbaar, oppervlakkig en nietszeggend is geworden allemaal, een verarming gehuld in een groot effecten- en manipulatiecircus. Hoe zei Frank Zappa dat ooit ook alweer? Oh ja: "We are only in it for the money" Hoe profetisch!

In de jaren 60 70 had je grote gezinnen en niks anders te doen dan samen zingen en muziek maken. Je leerde zingen in de kerk en op school and je had nieuwe pop en rock muziek met electrische gitaren en orgels om je te onderscheiden van je ouders en de vorige generatie. Logisch dat daar veel meer uitkwam dan tegenwoordig. Tegenwoordig, ook als er geen muziek industie zou zijn, zou er waarschijnlijk weinig kwaliteits rock en popmuziek gemaakt worden. We zitten allemaal op internet, sociale media, netflix, computer games etc.

@@richardbloemenkamp8532 Oneens. Vroeger was er ook absolute bagger (kijk eens hoeveel muziek uit de hitlijsten van toen er is vergeten, met goede reden! Nederlandstalige meuk deed het toen ook al goed, of is de Kelly Family net zo veel kwaliteit?) Aan de andere kant wordt er nog steeds geweldige rockmuziek gemaakt, bijvoorbeeld Rachel Flowers, Liliac, Ghost. Soms is het wel underground, en soms zijn de bands lokaler bekend. Vanuit Friesland kan ik bijvoorbeeld De Hunekop (friestalige mix tussen punk en Johnny Cash) en progmetal als Lyonite zeer aanraden.

SO effing good. I got into this band not long ago and cannot believe no one in my life ever mentioned these geniuses. Now I can hear their influence on several of my favorite bands that came after, particularly Australia’s own geniuses The Moffs. Now I’m on the hunt for their original vinyl pressings. They sound amazing on a turntable.

Yup, probably have to fly over here to get some, they were pretty big at home back then. Smart manager should have sent their first batch of singles after Shocking Blue Venus hit no 1 in the States. Though I dig SB even more, musically E&F were more inventive. Overall late sixties early 70s were great in Holland, the Hague in particular. Try Sandy Coast for a change, Capital Punishment, True love = wonder or Summer Train

I still remember the first time I ever heard Earth & Fire (thanks to the Alan Freeman Saturday Afternoon Radio Show). I dived over my bed grabbed a cassette recorder and blank tape and managed to record part of 'Atlantis'. 30 years later I actually got a copy of the album. Many years of looking around record shops asking 'Have you got any Earth & Fire' only to be met with blank stares....Thanks for this video its fantastic.

I did grow up in that time - I'm 70 ! Spent much time listening to Radio Veronica between '68 & about '73 so if they did get exposure on Radio One or Luxembourg I'm afraid it passed me by !

George Kooymans bepalend voor Earth and Fire? Haha laat mij niet lachen. Golden Earring hebben een paar knallers, maar het overgrote deel is absolute bagger. De bandleden vinden vooral zichzelf goed. Earth and Fire zitten in een hele andere league.

RIP Chris 11-11-2022 (guitarist). Wish a well journey to your twin-brother Gerard on keys (died 2019) who will wait for you in Heaven. Bassplayer and husband of singer Jerney Kaagman Bert Ruiter died also this year (24-03-2022). He participate the band in 1978.

In addition to superb musicianship and songwriting, what knocks me out about their early albums is how well recorded they were. The production is remarkable for that era. This band was on par with Yes, Genesis or any other of their prog contemporaries. The first five albums are incredible.

Earth & fire did amazing albums between the years 1969-1982, then in 1982 they broke up, they did another album under the name of earth and fire, but only jerney kaagman was there from all the original members, that was in 1989, there were other bands with female vocalist back in the day, but no one came even close to jerney, she was on a league of her own, thanks jerney

Wegens een oogziekte heeft ze noodgedwongen de band verlaten en is kort daarop verhuist naar Amerika. Pas daarna is Seasons (compositie George Kooymans) opgenomen en uitgebracht met Jerney Kaagman als zangeres. Dus eerst jezelf even van de feiten op hoogte stellen, voordat je hier wat gaat lopen roeptoeteren.
