Leah and I are two humans who no longer support the inhuman, oligarchic empire model destroying our planet and our true nature as human beings. As activists we decided to do something about it, so we opted out of our former lives to begin anew. We are currently transforming pristine alpine wilderness into a self-sustaining homestead and organic farm in preparation for the upcoming collapse. We plan on developing and executing every single step of the process in open source format for the benefit of all humanity. With our backgrounds in academia and the sciences (climatology, geology, physics, biology, chemistry, and more) we hope to uncover the lies perpetrated by the mass media. It will be presented here and on our website in a systematic and thorough process. As you can imagine, this is a multifaceted, lifelong project, and we are so passionately excited to take the next steps towards self sufficiency and our dream! Won't you join us?

That works perfectly fine in a climate where the water table is very low, but the water table here in Florida is only a few feet deep and it would fill up with water and be somewhat worthless.

Ah, sweet Floridian sewage water, you could bottle that and sell it as it already comes pre fermented. Worthless? yes, but the whole state is like that from a prepping/survival standpoint.

You could run a solid tube and use a liquid in it for the thermal transfer. It would be more expensive but that's the price you pay for having all of that ambient lethal wildlife around to enjoy.

Killer system, love it! I especially love how you are sending the warm air across the top tile and what is coming back is from the bottom. I want to point out Radon though. drainage tile, since its not sealed will pull in radon. Its smart, especially in a closed system like this to test for radon on occassion.

Looks like a great project. I do have a question about using slotted tubing as a opposed to solid. Seems the tubing will allow moisture into the tube which will promote higher humidity and all the associated issues.

Direct ground-to-air geothermal systems aren't new - and you don't need "soft" tubing for it, just fairly THIN tubing like used in most drainage systems. Schedule 40 PVC works fine in these applications, as opposed to the Schedule 80 commonly used in water systems. The basic concept goes back to AT LEAST ancient Persia and the "Quanats" (sp?) a couple thousand or so years ago, though those combined a bit of evaporative cooling into the concept.

1. The socks will not insulate too much the pipes? As far as I know, the insulation of the pipes should be as small as possible, in order to facilitate heat transfer between air flowing through them and the earth. 2. What is the material from which the pipes are made? 3. Did you dig the ditch by hand? (if so, I have to congratulate you) How long did it take?
@Bulldogg408

I've read that you need to use split corrugated pipe, with the split facing down and a gravel bed in the bottom of the trench. Reason being that humidity builds up in the pipes and condensation runs down the sides and pools in the bottom. With split pipe, it all drains out into the gravel bed. Without split pipe, even if you use perforated pipe, you end up with a pool of water sitting in the bottom of the pipe that grows mold, contaminates the air, and forces people to abandon the system. Any thoughts on that? I want to use a system like this for passive air conditioning in a house. Which will be pulling hot summer air underground and cause even more of a condensation problem.

Thank you so much for explaining this - been trying to find some information on the earth tube system. This system recycles the same air correct, or no (could be missing something)? If so how do you combat giving your plants fresh air (carbon dioxide) without opening a vent in the winter? I noticed the citrus in the snow had the tubes open to the air on the outside of the greenhouse - don't know if that helps that at all.

Awesome video. Living in CA I want to do this for cooling greenhouses in summer as well as providing heat in winter, but less so as we don't get too cold. I'm wondering what the reason for the sock? This isn't perforated pipe, is it?

...I'm wondering if you had cistern wrapped around the house either below ground or buried in the berm could be used with non perforated 4" tubing ...if the tubing had a slope within the cistern...the water in the cistern would absorb the thermal energy and transfer it to the air moving by gravity thru the tube...

Your drain tile is perforated, eh? Do you know if your ground has any detectable radon? Radon will ingress from the ground into the drain tile and then with closed loop into your dwelling.

Leah and cuz I may have a good idea about underground thermal heating system I would take a 2 55gal drums buy one of those wood burning stove kits where you put one on top of the other put in your shop build a plenum made of metal surrounding it put a hole in the plenum around the bottom of the 55 gal drum where you load your wood in it. Cut a hole in side where can regulate letting heat out. Those 55gal drums will put out 80.000 btu worth of heat then cut your holes in to where you can your tubes to your green house and house for heat or back up heat when it gets to cold. You have to have a back up for when it gets to cold. Plus you cant let Leah pum pum get to cold. I hook one up to my plenum to my furnace in my basement up north my furnace fan did not ever come on. You will have to put a fan somewhere in the system to help circulate that far you have to go. You can also hook another plenum to the outside of the other one and put a hot water tank attached to it. Later see ya soon Farzy Farz

That would not work here in Texas. It would fill with water in our Sandy soil..it would have to be solid with joints made water proof. I would use solid schedule 80 PVC with glued connections. Anything less would end up being crushed. We had installed that old weaker white drain pipe. Over time it got crushed and became useless. Had to dig up the old pipe on my sewer line because it was crushed in on itself. Then got scheduled 80 drain pipe . It had joiner ends already molded on the ends . One female other male. I put a sock on it to prevent Dirk getting inside. It also was as at a downward angle so it would drain. Been working now ever since 2003. I need to do the gray water line now too. But the septic system has worked well since the redo. It's a home DYI system put in during the early '90's. I live out in the country. But now they require specific rules not I place back then. If I do a redo on my gray water line myself I will be able to do a DYI repair. To get it done by now required standards. It would cost me $6,300 . Ouch.. I'm going the DYI route just need to rent a ditch witch to dig up the crushed pipe and replace it with scheduled 80 drain pipe with sick. Lots of work. But a lot cheaper.

It's odd to me that drain tile has perforations on the high part of the corrugation rather than the low parts. Seems like when they drill they could just as easily perforate the low point of the tubing. The way it's designed right now couldn't you get condensation standing in the grooves the whole length of pipe? Maybe it's not enough water to cause any problems?
@JohnGuest45
@JohnGuest45 Жыл бұрын
Drainage tube is specifically designed to let water in and carry it away. If they allowed water to flow in and flow out at the same location it wouldnt be much good for drainage :)
@AKDanMusicMan
@AKDanMusicMan Жыл бұрын
@@JohnGuest45 wouldn’t that leave water sitting in the low parts?
@JohnGuest45
@JohnGuest45 Жыл бұрын
@@AKDanMusicMan Yes, drainage tubing was never designed to be used as an air duct :) Most video`s on you tube dont even consider this issue. I recommend cutting a straight slot lengthwise partway through the corrugations using a circular saw with the cut depth set to ~ 3/16" (dont cut all the way through). Installing the tube with the slot facing down will ensure the condensate drains fully.
@AKDanMusicMan
@AKDanMusicMan Жыл бұрын
@@JohnGuest45 I guess if the air is constantly flowing through the tubes the stagnant water in the grooves might evaporate, but it just seemed like a design flaw to use these as air ducts.
