Maurice White produced this one, which made this stand out within the "Sgt. Pepper" soundtrack in the same way Elton John's "Pinball Wizard" (which had his own backing band and producer Gus Dudgeon) was the saving grace of the soundtrack to the film version of The Who's "Tommy." It really stands out in contrast to the paint-by-numbers carbon copy version of "Come Together" as by Aerosmith - which, like most of the rest of the soundtrack (save for this one), was produced by ex-Beatles producer George Martin. Thank G-d EWF stayed away from Martin!

I feel The Beatles version was an homage to the Motown style which is especially evident in the vocal harmonies. Earth, Wind, and Fire had some inspiration from Motown as well. So it's beautiful to see how each band was influenced by Motown and came to their own conclusions with this song.

EW&F did this song and there's an interview where Paul said that he was PROUD and JEALOUS at the same time because he knew they (EW&F) were gonna do a great job on this song. Both this and the original are both solid. EWF did The Beatles justice by performing one of their classics and nailed it. Not many performers can do that and have it stand the rest of time. The arrangements of this cover is simply magnificent
