I believe in 50 years time Maurice White will be mentioned in the same breath as Bach, Brahms & Beethoven and that's not hyperbole! In the Stone is a perfect specimen to illustrate his genius. EWF was always perfectly disciplined but could still make your upper lip curl because the funk could not be denied or resisted. Kool in the Gang, Brass Construction, Tower of Power, The Ohio Players, Con Funk Shun were all great . . . but then there was still Earth Wind & Fire . . . because there was Maurice White.

Sitting in my parents living room having finally found the time to play my LP (had 1 record player and it was in their living room/bedroom). Was in another world vibing off this..and the next song..and the whole damn album. Father walks in (usually we would scatter so he could come in and decompress).. this time he just came in and sat down and let me roll with it.. lol the smile on his face when I was done...never forgot that. I suggest that we stage a massive protest in order to get radio stations to acquiesce to our demands of playing EWF 24/7 with no commercial interruptions. We can accomplish this forming a human circle around target radio stations while simultaneously singing the high falsetto vocal parts of EWF's hit "Reasons", especially the live version.

The intro is pure class; the band is tight, the trumpet crisp, the drum and bass perfectly syncopated in bars 3 and 5 onwards, the violins sweep beautifully across the top, and it all ends after 54 seconds with a single note in unison, ready for Maurice White to blow our minds and warm our hearts: "I've found a love, provides the key, unlocks the heart and soul of you and me".
