I saw it in 1974 in the theatre and the Sensuround was very, very effective. Never experienced anything like it since. Even IMAX doesn’t come close.

I remember watching Earthquake at the Bethany theater in Phoenix, AZ. The sound system damaged the building. It was a precursor to Dolby Surround System.

So you could say the building sustained damage just by watching an earthquake movie? 🤨😂

Thank you for posting this. I saw Earthquake in Sensurround with my dad and brother at the Hayden West Theatre in Phoenix, 1975. I remember the huge speakers in back of the building and the seats shaking. I believe my dad was a bit taken by the experience. I wish they would bring this back. You would think with today's technology, they could replicate the sound. Unfortunately not too many single screen theatres around that would be available to show this. It's been done in Germany at the Schauberg Theatre

I remember seeing this as a kid, the IN SENSURROUND was a huge deal, everyone was talking about it. It was supposed to be the future of movies, but apparently it was very expensive to install and dial in the equipment, plus you had to remove seats from the theater to fit all the equipment. So it wasn't very cost effective and so it's a cool footnote.

The voice-over (from 20 seconds) sounds like it's Dick Tufeld who voiced the robot in Lost in Space. It's gotta be him. LOL

"You cannot experience Sensurround on TV!" ...because nobody saw home theaters becoming a thing in 1975!

my dad took me see " the towering inferno " bournemouth , abc screen 2 downstairs directly below screen 1 above . during intermission i heard a low rumble noise , what is that ? looking above at the ceiling . i recall the poster outside earthquake screen 1 and other large letters " sensurround " . saw it few days later ,70mm six track sensurround , best sub bass generated i felt for 79p compared to dolb labs substandard atmos , across the road from closed down abc home to the pigeons now . i like pigeons . the odeon bh2 screen 10 isense rubbish dolby atmos where i have three times had to wear earplugs , MF/HF horns are deafeningly dB unsafe of the 85dBA they are well over the safety limit . rubbish atmos bass . THX at the CIC Empire Leicester Square , 70mm mag JBL THX way better than sensurround or on bass sub bass par ? earthquake often gets played here . saw it 4 times over many months , beats disney , iger kk jar jar of that star wars mary sur atmos rubbish . earthquake is a real movie , star wars mary sue was garbage trash . i rather see earthquake in 70mm sensurround , but rarely gets played now and most prints colour faded to pink , still be better than disney woke star wars trash about a mary sue ?

I wonder if actress Geneviève Bujold was French or French American. Her name stuck out like a sore thumb within an all star cast with a bunch of English names or English sounding names. It would have been something if she had spoken French with English subtitles. Anyway, my now deceased parents took me to view Earthquake in late 1974. We even had the album about the soundtrack of this movie & visited Universal studios 1 more time during 1977 summer vacation. Little did I realize that Universal studios was operating on another huge blockbuster, JAWS in 1974 to be released by summer 1975.
