In the original windscreen, there’s another layer of a different type of foam, I’ve heard someone was able to remove that layer, and said it got rid of the muddy sound

Yeah! There’s a small Hakkan-like pop filter in the provided windscreen. I think you can remove it, I haven’t. Have you tried it out? Would love to know your experience!

@@BeardedManFromWaco Haha no, I haven’t. I don’t personally own the earthworks ethos but have been interested in buying one for a while. I wanted something that was easy to listen to like the SM7B, but more clear- that lead me to the RE20; but the RE20 costs about $750 where I live, which is way out of my budget. Then I came across the Ethos and thought it was a decent blend of what I was looking for, it was easy to listen to like the SM7B, and a bit darker than the RE20, but still retained more clarity than the SM7B, however, it was still muddier than what I wanted. Then I came across a video from The Microphone Assassin (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n16ropuIepiogZosi=12YaUaiNgSd0DR2i) where he showcased what the ethos sounded like without the pop filter and I really enjoyed it. I scrolled through the comments, to find one commenter who said that they successfully managed to remove the Hakkan-like pop filter and that it made the microphone into what I had been looking for haha

@@BeardedManFromWaco it pulls out easily, not glued or anything.
