@@DominionWolf Not surprised they upgraded it. That thing was nasty. Mile wide, low-hanging wall cloud, HP supercell, and just an overall nasty multi-vortex wedge. 4/26/2024 had us all floored. It wound up being way more violent than anticipated.

(I’m a storm spotter in Omaha) I was driving home from school at around 3:07 pm when the tornado warning was issued (I heard it over the radio in my truck) (if I stayed another 30 seconds they would’ve made me stay) I drove past the grocery store near my house to see the siren there go off, and when I got home I just sat in the driveway for a good hour just hearing the sirens and thunder, (around 3:40 I think) I heard this over my radio. And I was scared because I knew my sister was still at her school (she teaches at an elementary school in Elkhorn) so I drove there and picked her up (she lives 5 minutes from her school)

Is a PDS warning the same as a tornado emergency, or did the term replace it?

PDS is for confirmed tornadoes that are large and dangerous, Tornado Emergency I believe is for when it is gonna hit a decently populated area. Correct me if I’m wrong

@@KirbySaysE I think tornado emergency means a tornado is 100% imminent or is actively occuring and it is severe enough to be life-threatening

@@xero_3901 KirbySaysE has it right. Tornado Emergencies are only issued when a tornado which is large and dangerous is expected to hit a large, highly populated area within the next several minutes. This is typically issued as a severe weather statement, usually as an addition to the Particularly Dangerous Situation wording which is used when a large tornado is not headed into a large community, but is in a more rural setting.

In terms of severity, It goes: severe thunderstorm warning (tornado possible) -> tornado warning (radar indicated) -> tornado warning (observed/radar confirmed) -> PDS Tornado Warning -> Tornado Emergency
