G'day Mr. Easdale from wee Easdale Island !

I first visited the island as a 14 year old boy on holiday with my family. It was wet and windy but it certainly is a magical place. Thirty six years later I still hope to return one day....

Stunning.... Brought tears to my eyes. I'm feeling homesick now. I'm half Scottish and grew up in Inverness. Reminds me a bit of Aultbea where we have family. Haven't been to Easdale yet but next year on my annual trip home form India for sure.

A wee dram of Oban single malt in my south London home led me to Zoopla to look for homes near Oban - and the first place that popped up was on Easdale. A beautiful discovery. I hope you continue to thrive.

My great great great grandfather worked in the quarries there and apparently died in a cave-in. Now I'm a Canadian living in Japan. That would be cool to move there and live there. It looks so beautiful. I agree with others that it would be amazing to live there if there was a job and a place to live. I don't know what I could do there though.

Well, the time has (almost) come! I'm so looking forward to visit next month. Is there any accomodation or home stay on the island? Will be driving down from Inverness if that's doable.. Cheers

I've lived in Fife for 15 years and toured the perimeter of Scotland more than once (including the isles to the far north) so while these images are truly beguiling, I'd like to know what the negatives are; for example midges? Those wee soldiers of the Deevil make a territory hell for a softy such as me. Is there a community council with strident chairmanship; or do you pay double for a can of Baked Beans? This enquiring mind wishes to know.
@seafariadventuresoban6 жыл бұрын
The midges can sometimes make our life a bit interesting ! Contact enquiries@easdale.org for more info about life on our island ..... we have the video as the creator, Paddy, was one of our crew members ! Easdale is definitely worth a visit though !

I wonder if it's like the island communities north of Sydney NSW, where there are also no cars, and where wheelbarrows are treated as very precious, for barrowing groceries or anything from the boat ramp up home!
@seafariadventuresoban8 жыл бұрын
+Ainzleeriddell It is indeed like that !
@robinclar8 жыл бұрын
+Ainzleeriddell That presumably explains why there were about ten wheelbarrows at one point in the vid, all carefully stored upside down (unlike anywhere else where they are left to rust). I was thinking it was just a wacky gardener's quirk. ("Would you like to see my wheelbarrow collection?") Now let's have a guess how many grand pianos there are.

+Pixolotl Well, after you get to the island, you won't need to watch the video again, so need to worry about watching KZbin videos any more!
@robinclar8 жыл бұрын
+Pixolotl Pix you are looking at this the wrong way round. It is the rest of Scotland and the continent (along with all the other continents) who are substantially restricted to only that 1.57Mb connection to connect anywhere else.
@ratelslangen8 жыл бұрын
+Exige000 The only way to ensure the continued existence of these communities is to have good internet connection to allow people to work from home. Places like these with high speed internet are popular among programmers, web designers or digital artists. Just my opinion on the matter.

My family left Scotland at the end of WW1. I was told due to lack of work. My paternal Great Grandfather then settled in Southern Illinois and had a farm. His mail order bride came from London and they had my grandfather. The farm was lost due to the droughts. My Grandfather then returned to Europe for WW2 and was discharged to back line service after the Battle of The Bulge due to frostbite. After returning to the States he settled in Chicago, had four children one being my father. Every man in my family from my grandfather down has worked in the steel industry. But “in this current climate” perhaps it’s time for the family to return to Scotland? Anyone with any idea or better yet first hand experience have any real suggestions? The States are a MESS! It’s a beautiful country but the day to day hassle and authoritative culture is causing me to question my position.

I'm 50, no children, never married and I'd love to move there, if I could find a job and rent a place. I'd literally do ANY job if it meant I could live there. :-)

It may be car-free but it's clearly not boat-free and basically they are just cars on water in effect! Mind you as a person who's long been dreaming of a car-free world it would be close enough though I guess one first has to have a stash of cash to pay for a property. .No mention of local food production - fishing, farming?

@curiousguy103 жыл бұрын
@@davidstorton910, unfortunately, it's one of those situations that is hard to explain without coming off as a cry-baby or race baiter. I do understand your confusion, but from experience, many of us get to enjoy many of the best things life has to offer through the silver and tiny screens, but must restrain ourselves from attempting to hit them live out of fear of stirring the pot. As they say in French, a cat that has been burned by hot water is afraid of cold water (once bitten, twice shy), so we tend to be more cautious than carefree.
