I moved to Boquete, Panama (in the cooler mountains) two years ago. I had a fairly easy transition because of the relocation tour that I took and it's expat community that helped me tremendously. I jokingly, well mostly, tell my USA relatives that I'm white in Panama. Meaning, I feel free here, unlike the USA.

@ I see. We spoke with a guy from Guatemala 🇬🇹 who’d been there for 11 years and he did say something like that. His stance was that based on the history between Panama and America there was a sort of grudge that Panama has which leads to minimal importance in learning/teaching English. According to him more people speak it than are willing to use it but to your point maybe it’s because they don’t know “enough” to bother with trying. @@Roshida Can you do a video on your experience there? I know you touched on Asian countries in your intro, but didn't expand on why these may not be good choices for first-time Expats.
@DanielleSamoneJohnson778 күн бұрын
@@underconstruction4413My son moved to South Korea a few years ago. The move was similar to what I've seen other expats report. Many Asian nations have various visas, but are generally averse to issuing permanent residence. Having to leave the country and possibly reenter on a renewed visa is not ideal either. SK's requirements were insane! He had to return all the way to his point of origin to renew his visa (not a teacher's visa). I had to house him for 4 months on one of his visa renewals. Eventually he and his girlfriend married and all the extremely expensive requirements shifted. I have found Thailand and Vietnam to be the most accessible, but still requiring much for long term stay. General rule of thumb: if a nation is predominantly homogenous, it may be due to its immigrant policies or visa requirements. If I wanted to be on that side of the planet (and I do eventually), I am seriously considering Mauritius. It's an African nation but its proximity to South Africa, India, and China, means the population are incredibly diverse. It has many wonderful facets that interest me as retiree. As for my business considerations, though, it's not my first choice.

What career fields/college majors would you recommend to young BW just starting out in life, who are looking to eventually transition abroad?
@Roshida11 күн бұрын
Hiiii! So that's hard, because it requires guessing about how technology and attitudes will develop, but I'd suggest doing something that you can do remotely in the US versus something you need to be in person for. That transition SHOULD be easier.
@Gullahbae7 күн бұрын
I would focus on gaining skills more than majors. You have folks with no degrees making 6 figures and folks with degrees making pennies. That’s because they have skills that are highly valuable in society.

Demographics for Brasil.🇧🇷 From Rio De Janeiro and all coastal cities north/northeast Brazil have more people of Color and more Black people. From Sao Paulo and all cities south in Brasil have more White people and less Black people. If you are a beach person, Rio and coastal cities north have the best beaches. I'd you want that NYC vibe, then Sao Paulo is for you with change of seasons too! I prefer Rio and all points North!😊

I lived in Rio for 10 years and in the most hippiest artsy of parts...Santa Teresa...you will still encounter racism! You can escape racism in Brazil by speaking English. I would get followed in the mall and when I would pretend to not speak Portuguese and say I was from Brooklyn...instant VIP treatment. It is a pro and a con...the racism exist but unlike in the US, you can work around it by speaking English. As brown skinned woman...I would avoid the beach in Copacabana all together...Ipanema or Leme are better to not get mistaken for "working" the beach by tourist looking for a little fun. Other than that I loved living in Rio and miss it.

Barra Da Tijuca, RJ Brazil was and easy landing for us. Rio Da Janeiro has great infrastructure, the best beach, total city living. Language is a barrier, but we have apps that takes care of that. RJ has 2 airports. Brazillians are terrific, kind. As a Black person, I fit in very well. After living in RJ for over a year, we moved north to Vitoria, Espírito Santo Brasil. It's like a mini Rio, geographically with beaches and great infrastructure, but much quieter and much less people. It has an airport too. Getting Residency is more difficult, but once you get it, life is great. Tourist visa is 90 days that can easily be extended for another 90days in 1 calendar year. You must leave the country after 180days on a Tourist visa and cannot return for 1year after your initial entry. Weather is always warm in northern brasil, from Rio and north. Weather can get cold from SaoPaulo and south. Brasil is earthquake free, hurricane free, no volcanoes and tornados are very, very rare. Floods can happen in the higher elevations. I left living in Mexico to move to Brasil and will never leave Brasil.💚🇧🇷

I subscribed to your channel too to find you. I know you don't have any videos. I'd love to know more about your experiences there. I've been studying Portuguese in earnest for the last year. I'm hoping to move in 2025. I think it's a great location for artists and business owners. There's still a lot of room for economic growth there and with BRICS. I hope you and your household have a fantastic outcome in your new place!

Speaking Spanish is a big advantage when you want to visit or live outside of major tourist areas. You don’t have to be fluent or know how to conjugate verbs in all the tenses of Spanish. You need to be more polite than most Americans are used to. You must greet everyone first unless you are in a crowded marketplace frequented by locals. People do not queue up in orderly lines. Not respecting one’s position in line drives Americans insane! You just mash your way forward. As soon as the locals hear your accent the prices will go up. Ask a local at your hotel or residence in advance what things such cost such as bus or taxi fares. Haggling is expected.
