Hi Kevin, so happy I stumbled across this video before I began my next painting. I'm starting an 18x24 Fall scene based on a beautiful photograph I shot years ago of long country road surrounded by enormous poplar trees covered in turning leaves of red, green, yellow, brown and orange. the road in the shot is about 3/4 of a mile long with just a little bit of a pond to the right peeking through, the hills in the back peeking through and the muddy blue sky in the negative spaces peeking through the leaves so I consider this a perfect piece to use/apply your techniques here...however some questions I have are: am I all right to apply this basic lesson to acrylic heavy body and Golden Open? And also, Because my trees in the photograph are Poplars, not Birch, do you recommend I stick with the Poplars or should I paint in Birch? Or, is this strictly up to me as a personal choice? Just about everything in your tutorial can absolutely apply to my photograph! It's very uncanny. I think you would love the pic and I'm hoping to do it justice with the painting, with your help, of course. I really love watching your videos, learn so much from you and appreciate the depth of your soulful talent. All of your work is stunning and moving...

Always been curious Kevin. Why is the 16x20 canvas your least favorite size???
@KevinOilPainting5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. At first, it seems just like an 18x24 just smaller. However, It's actually just a bit more square. When painting sideways there is less room for the landscape, if that makes sense. Hope this helps.

I personally dont like the idea of using knife to put paint on canvas and call it painting. However it looks good. The more traditional way of using brushes is best and have more control.
